August Alsina has been prepping for his third studio album release all year, leaving fans to wonder lately why the project is still on hold. Alsina -- who hasn?t dropped an album since This Thing Called Life in late 2015 -- answered one such inquiry on Twitter Monday (Nov. 13), blaming his label Def Jam for delay.
The 25-year-old artist said the album will be out next year, but if were up to him it would have been much sooner than that.
"I would love to put my album out but DEF JAM is holding it/me hostage because the system is not up & running until next year so they basically dont exist," he wrote replying to a fan. "The label is just TRASH .. I will release free music soon but that has been the hold up. Tell Them to FREE ME & the Album."
The New Orleans native has released four singles in preparation of his album: ?Wait,? ?Lonely,? ?Don?t Matter? and ?Drugs.?

Ummmmm seems like Def Jam is going on holiday break for the 4th Quarter like the entire music industry does..... is he ok? He can?t compete with a release in the 4th anyway.
I used to love him, but I've been over him since he tried to diss us down here when he was slated to perform here. I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on those tickets like I did buying his album on itunes and out of FYE.

So he wants fans to show a demand for the album to prove that they she free him from his contract? How does that make good business sense for the labels?

No. The CEO change hasn't become official yet. That's holding up most of the business there until Peter Rosenburg's official start date.
