Title: Streaming Question
Post by: Rxxf on April 28, 2018, 12:12:51 PM
When you purchase a song from the iTunes store, for instance...
Do 'streams' count when you play that purchased song?
Or do streams only count for songs you didn't purchase?

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere online.

It's weird

So, no

When purchased from the Apple store its one sale

If you stream it through a streaming service, Apple music, Spotify, ECT

10? Plays is a sale

Theyve separated music stores and streaming

At least this is what I was last informed of

They change Billboard everyday now it seems

On Apple Music, if you stream a song that you've already purchased on iTunes, the streams don't count because it's already in your "Downloaded" section.

That's why the Barbz told me if you're gonna stream the explicit version of Chun-Li on Apple Music, make sure you purchase the clean version of Chun-Li on iTunes.

If you stream a song on Apple Music that you haven't purchased on iTunes, then the streams will count.

This is only for Apple Music tho. All streams on any other service such as Spotify and Tidal will count.

It makes sense how certifications come about so fast now

Cause I damn sure play most songs I like more than 10 times

But Spotify seems to be the biggest player

Which is why I'm confused when artist don't add their music to it

Ok. Thanks!

Cause I noticed, when I play music on Apple MUSIC -- ones that were purchased from the iTunes store -- they show that they're linked to my library. So it doesn't seem like the song will count my stream, cause it's technically on my computer.

Last I heard 150 streams counts as 1 sale.

You're right

In the new structure, 150 streams of a song equals one paid download, and ten paid downloads equates to an album download. So, an artist's music will have to be streamed on any of the approved, included services 1,500 times for an album ?sale? to be counted.

This is what I was wondering.
Ok, ok.

Cause I was thinking the other day, I play Brandy so much.
But none of it counts towards her streams, cause every song is purchased.
So she could get one sale from me.  But she really has many sales (x) from me (that doesn't count) due to the amount of times I play her music.  (x) that by all her other fans.

Got it.

I'm going to stop buying digital copies from Brandy. Buy her physical CDs...
And just stream her music.
Cause I have over 250-500 plays on each song.
:dead:
Shit adds up.

And that can easily happen when you have millions of people using the streaming system.
Us on the board alone can book 150 plays between 15 people who played a song 10x in a single night -- yes, it's 1 sale. But it'll add to more as we stream it throughout the weeks.

If it's a hot song, of course.
:ohwow:

Nope. So buying a song is useless.
It?s better to just stream it even it?s from YouTube.

Buying the song is more essentials when it comes close to having enough points to go (top 10,5,3,1 etc. )

which is SO crazy to me :plzstop:

But I guess if we're using COUNTLESS servers to play music over and over, someone should benefit from that
