QuoteRita Ora has claimed her former record label discriminated against her because she's female.
The singer, 27, previously filed a lawsuit to get out of her contract with Jay-Z's Roc Nation, accusing them of neglecting her in favour of other artists, before they counter-sued and then settled the case in 2016.
Although she insists the split from her label was amicable, she thinks she'd have had a 'better chance' if she was a man.
She told the Sunday Times magazine: 'I want to find the right word here, and maybe this is my interpretation, but I do feel I got discriminated against because I was a woman.
These days, Rita's business manager is her older sister Elena, and though they don't always get along, she's 'proud' of their achievements.
The singer was rumoured to have had an affair with Jay because of the 'Becky with the good hair' reference in the rapper's wife Beyonce's track Sorry, but Rita insists it couldn't be further from the truth.
She quipped: 'Hey, all I want to say to that is, dude, if I were BWTGH, wouldn't I actually have to have good hair? Look at it. It's all weave and extensions.
The pop princess joked that she's Beyonce's number one fan and would 'die for her', so finds the claims all the more laughable.
In 2016, Rita came to an agreement after Roc Nation sued Rita for $2.4 million for breaching the terms of her contract and not providing the required number of albums throughout the years she's been with them.
Roc Nation claims it signed Rita in 2008 when she was unknown and invested millions in her career. In return she had to deliver 5 albums, but the label says it only got one - her debut album Ora was released in 2012.
In Rita's original lawsuit in December 2015, she claimed she completed new music for her second album but the label hadn't released it, instead focusing on representing other acts on its roster.
But according to Roc Nation's lawsuit, the label has already spent more than $2.3million on marketing her second LP and the point of the lawsuit is to get the money back, reported TMZ.
The singer's attorney Howard King, stated at the time that Jay had already promised to release Rita from her contract, meaning the lawsuit could be dismissed.
King told Page Six: 'Jay Z has personally and graciously promised Rita complete freedom from Roc Nation, the details of which are now being finalized.
'We believe that Roc Nation's distributor, Sony Music, has required Roc Nation to file this action to preserve whatever rights Sony might have pending resolution.'

Both.
There are 2 artists on the label that slay. J Cole and Rih.
Would be something to talk about if there were 50-11 male artist on the label that were popping.

And like I said, Rita didn?t pop because she makes shitty music.

I'm not a struggling british recording artist trying to crossover UNSUCCESSFULLY into the American market so it doesn't matter what I have done sis.
Also she rode the Iggy train for black widow and STILL has not be able to cross over and slay the American scene
America just doesn't use her solo mess It happens to a lot of British artists.
You?re shook hun. The day of reckoning is upon you.

Rihanna created her own label during that era. Don?t blame RN for that mess.
How she claim gender discrimination when their biggest IS a woman?
:uhh:
maybe because that person was big before she was a signed artist there
so she doesn?t count
She's had more than a FEW chances, Ray
As many singles as she's had you could argue she's privileged :everythingok:
Never used her and never will.

La didn?t even want her and was ready drop her in 05 before SOS. Jay z signed her to def jam (and was the head of the label then) and jay brown overseas her mess and has from the start.
He?s also head of the music mess at the roc.
Rita disappoints me so much
I used when she was a pretty mixed girl on tumblr because I thought she would slay the music scene
only for it to turn out she was a super basic and blame white pop star.

Are you saying Roc Nation didn?t have Rita everywhere in the US?
