Do you think Michael Jackson's change of skintone helped him become more "accepting"/"popular" or sell records to "white audience"?First off, this is no shade to Michael Jackson or his skin change. I'm actually a big fan of him. This is just a conversation I had with my cousin awhile ago. I was like "When are we gonna get another Michael Jackson?" And then started joking about maybe the reason we don't have a new Michael Jackson is because of skin tone staying the same with most people.
I love Michael Jackson, R.I.P.
This is just something I thought would be great to discuss because there is a LITTLE truth to it if you think about it.
BUT, MJ was the best to ever do it. This Superbowl Halftime performance >>>>>>
:raycharles2urmess: :raycharles2urmess: :raycharles2urmess: :raycharles2urmess:
What do you guys think? Did his skintone-change help?
Did the "White" MJ dominate MORE than the brown skinned MJ?
Let's discuss!

He was a beautiful dark skinned man when he released his biggest record
And the biggest record in history.
So I'd say no. I think that a combination of his insecurities and the endless amount of money he made off of the record led to his journeys under the knife
michael was never dark skin
he was a creamy brown
(https://marciokenobi.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/jacko-23.jpg)
His skin was of a dark hue. This is dark skin.
I don't believe in capuccinos, medium rare and mess.
I agree Ken.
I was thinking the same.
"Thriller" was huge and that's when he was brown skin
:ohwow: & that was an EPIC era
Yes he elevated himself into a creature beyond race, gender or age. He became a deity, superhuman. The look helped.

yeah, I'd say brown skin. Not dark.
To Western standards MJ was def dark.
but if u dont believe in different hues.. then how can u say he was dark skin..
wouldnt he just be.. "BLACK"
Did the vitiligo affect his whole body or did he bleach the uninvolved parts?
But yeah..
theres light skin, brown skin and dark skin...
and he was brown

I never said I didn't believe in hues, I actually referenced a hue.
I just don't believe in separating dark skin into different categories.
He had dark skin. The level of its darkness is something that can be debated I suppose. But that's the limit of what can be argued.

There is more than that. But if we are talking the Western World, he would definitely be of dark complexion.
If we speak in the black work only, you can argue your "brown" mess.

Not necessarily. IMO
A dark hue is fact.
"Creamy brown" is not a hue. Sounds like something that is individually constructed as opposed to being derived from the color spectrum itself.

you referred to Idris as light in comparison to my pic, perfectly proving my point that skin color is absolutely relative beyond just three categories "brown", "dark" and "light. The nuances are limitless.

brown skin
dark skin

I see dark and brown used interchangeably all the time tbh. Then there is light and also yellow. I don't think your theory is universal for the entire United States lol.

Dark hues refer to colors that fall on the furthest side of color spectrum.
"Dark" is not an individual hue, which is why I said that there are different levels of dark skin, not just one.
I think that's the problem. We hear someone say "dark skinned", automatically debate like this ensues. "Not dark skinned! Here's proof! Look @ Tyrese. THIS is dark :receipts: "
Why are we so quick in moving to correct that?
dont wanna argue really!
he was definitely brown skin!!!!
and dark aint a hue!!!

Reading is essential. In Africa, ergo the black world, Brandy is nor "dark", MJ is not "dark" either. As it is relative. But in the Western world both can be classified as dark as the big majority of the Western population is of lighter complexion,
hhhh

Michael was dark and that's what anybody who isn't black saw him as. They don't see red, yellow caramel and all that other stupid mess black people have made up.

I'm brown I guess, but I'm considered a dark skin man I believe
I think this is a big problem in our community...
last week my coworkers complimented me and were joking with me. And I was laughing and said stop, you're making me blush and you know that's hard since I'm dark skinned lol...just a harmless joke.
She immediately moved to correct me...."you're not dark skinned :uhh: " then she went into this silly description of what I.....again of what I should be identifying MYSELF as. I didn't bother to even memorize it but I''m sure it included dairy free creamer of some sort.
Like, if I see myself as dark skinned, let me do that. I am proud of my skin. You'd think I called myself ugly or something. "omg! wtf :diddraispoot: honey don't say that... " :uhh:
Let me identify with what I see in the mirror. As long as I'm not running around calling myself white, you shouldn't be moving to correct me

I've gotten "omg no you aren't" so many times smsdmdfccccccv
And what's more alarming is that the person who corrected me is dark skin as well, which is why I felt comfortable making the joke with her.....like something for us to laugh about real quick....and come together on. But instead it ended up into a breakdown of color shades .... i walked away from the conversation like :udontlookok: it completely turned me off.
michael was my skin tones n i consider myselfs lite skin....so yea
it def' help him imo!!
His best sales are with his original skin color.

On Quantico they called Priyanka "dark skinned", am mean... If she is dark, MJ is def "dark". This is universal America, or the Western World MJ was slaying at, not just black America, or just Africa.

No. I think the first couple of nose jobs helped him, but just everybody in Hollywood has been helped by a nose job.
I do think some people preferred him with lighter skin, though. Not me or anybody I know, but I have seen some things.
Prince is so ... alive and not changing colors
No. I believe it actually hurt him. Towards the end, he was known for many other things besides the music he was releasing. His skin color transition was an easy target for many jokes. Luckily he proved his genius before, after and during his transition (and odd lifestlye) so there was never a question about the man's talent. Love MJ
