I feel like if these girls had debuted a few years later they'd at least make it off the mixtape circuit.

It's crazy Melanie Fiona has won 2 grammys but it didn't generate any buzz for her.

Yeah smh. Two for her collaboration with Cee-Lo.

Elle Varner has one too. Her contribution to Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book album.  :dead:

All of these girls had promise though.

Elle had the neosoul thing going on, Melanie was more traditional, Tiara Thomas was meant to be a Keyshia Cole type I guess? The way they dipped off face of the planet  :omgwatshappening:

As I get older I realise was a special moment in time and probably won't be duplicated.

When Sevyn, Jhene and Tinashe started popping I thought R&B was all the way back. But it took Sevyn like 5 years to release an album and it flopped for filth

It truly was special. Like to be black and growing up at that time>>

Girls being able to see themselves at the top of the charts, breaking records and crossing over into film and TV
Just epic all around

I feel bad for the girls out now because they don't even get afforded the same opportunities

I hope R&B get mainstream support again soon

People Like Sevyn, Tinashe, June's Diary, etc deserve that shot

I don't use any of them really. Most these new gorls are trash.

Elle is missing something too. I've tried in the past with her but her music is not connecting.

Melanie had everything going for her. ?Monday Morning? was a Euro smash, ?It Kills Me? was an urban smash l. Her voice is beautiful but really her albums overall had lackluster material... just a few cute singles.

Elle idk, her debut was perfect. The label should have given her a second chance. That K. Michelle beef was unnecessary.

Tiara never really happened except for that chorus. She was STUPID to go with PICO over Wale. Actually Rico Love also
ruined Melanie tbh

I loved Bridget but her music was too boring and basic for the time.

I loved Melanie and Elle Varner. Never got into Tiara Thomas.

Dondria?s album was tf HORRIBLE. Never got the hype about Jhene at all. She never did it for me.

I?m getting back into Sevyn again now that ?Yernin? is out and l came across ?Before l Do? and didn?t know it was a single and was #1 on urban ac :hmph:

I also liked RaVaughn too. But she too, didn?t go anywhere

Why Ciara can't bring in 2,000 people to these baby ass venues?

May 5, 2015   New York City   Best Buy Theater   1,746 / 2,150   $48,145
May 7, 2015   Boston   House of Blues   1,220 / 1,373   $35,082
May 30, 2015   Los Angeles   Club Nokia   1,453 / 2,405   $44,288
May 31, 2015   San Francisco   The Regency Ballroom   1,089 / 1,424   $32,388

QuoteI first recognized this tendency in myself when I realized that the worse a Ciara album did, the more I seemed to enjoy it. After her first two albums sold well into the millions, none of her subsequent releases (Fantasy Ride, Basic Instinct, Ciara, and Jackie) sold even a quarter of a million copies?a sales dip made infamous by an animated MTV News graph immortalized in GIF form. But I found myself not just savoring these supposedly less successful albums, but promoting them in conversations with friends.

here's the gif btw

R&B female singers has been a dying breed since last decade, imo dating back to 2004/2005. We had a handful of them and they couldn't sustain past a year or two. Keyshia made some noise though. Rihanna went on to become a pop cultural phenomenon. The rest fell by the wayside which is sad because they all had potential.
n

Keyshia!

Ciara shits all over that broad and is out here charting in 2018. Who else from 2004 and on is?

Bridget was done when frank took his song back.

Melanie was doing good singles wise.

Tiaras music never lived up to bad tbh.

Elle?s label was too busy with k Michelle.

Tbh most of this decade females couldn?t get radio play without a male feature. If you weren?t bey or Rihanna. Forget it.

Now plenty of the girls are doing what needs to be done success wise

Jhene, HER, Sza, Ella, Queen Naija, DaniLeigh

All have hits on the radio.
