My only fear is that if they're forced to increase pay, they'll begin slashing jobs to make up for it.
Giving one person the work of two, etc.

thats true but that would be so screwed up and unnecessary. They really work those people HARD all day and they make like 8 dollars? Who the hell is living on that
I think they deserve atlease $9. I worked at a fast food place for about a week to have a job in college and quit. It was terrible
As emotional as this speech is, it's sketchy. There are bountiful benefits for veterans. Perhaps he was kicked out.

He's actually one of the few who enjoy cooking for a fast food restaurant. Which is quite admirable.

I did it... Though, I no longer work in food.
But there is another type of job that I started working in....
I could only find jobs that were paying 8-9 an hour.
But I recently got hired a couple months ago for one that is paying way more.
So, it is possible...
Amusement parks, classier restaurants, etc. will pay him what he's asking for, if not close.
It will be more than 7.25, nonetheless.

This is key as well
I would hope ppl with better qualifications would seek bigger opportunities.
It's all about progression in life.
I worked at a supermarket in high school for my coin 7.50, then got moved to 8.25
Every opportunity since then had to increase. I've turned things down before if the requested compensation isn't fitting.
Maybe they need to strike and let the Mr. Sanders know they won't stand for the bullshit
What makes him think his job is worth 15.00 an hour?
Bet he won't scrub a toilet for that much.
I'm sorry but I just don't agree. Minimum wage is entirely too low but $15, nah. I think that as a veteran he should have more and better job opportunities tho.

HE shouldn't have to do that. HE should be covered by the G.I. bill. HE qualifies as military preference for ALL professions. His "passion" to flour chicken shouldn't have deviated HIM from going to the VA with medical records of his purple heart. This makes no sense.
You have to see it from his point of view.
He actually enjoys what he does, and sees a lot of value in what he does.
He considers himself a cook. Not a burger flipper. And technically, he is a cook.
He's happy with his job. He just wants to be more fairly compensated for what he feels is a job that brings joy both to himself and his customers. And probably wants to see if it'll happen before he begins looking for something "better".
That's what people usually do when they take pride in their job but find problems making ends meet.
If we got paid based on how we felt we should be compensated then we'd all be making more money. If he's so fulfilled with his job then he needs to accept what comes along with it and that's minimum wage. He works at a fckn fast food restaurant. I'm sorry but NO! So because he's satisfied and feels like his job serves a higher purpose then he should be compensated more? PLEA :dead:
If he wanted to be a proper cook, that's something he coulda done while in the military and actually become certified to do. Don't get out and work at the local restaurant and scream $15, gtfoh

Well that's just stating the obvious.
But negotiating your pay based on what you feel is more fair is not a new concept or idea. Irrespective of whether you're in fast food or working directly for a corporate executive.
It's always worth a try, if you have the guts to go for it. They're hearing him out, so clearly they see logic in his feelings to some extent.

Right.
There's nothing wrong with negotiating. I am actually happy to see a black man speaking up for himself. So many of us have this "oooohhhh shush chile...don't upset massah!" complex when it comes to the workplace. It's worth a try to speak up instead of going around constantly saying "I don't get paid enough for this!", without saying it to the people who matter and who could possibly change that for you.
Action >>> complaining. More people should follow in his footsteps.

These jobs were originally created for teens who were in high school who wanted sneakers and phones, and college students trying to get extra money for books and mess. Times have changed since the recession. Many of these students are being replaced with adults, in many cases college educated adults, who have nowhere else to turn and just need to make ends meet, possibly until they find something more suitable for them.
Less and less people are retiring from their careers at "retirement age", due to the fear of such a scarce funds once they stop working. So this leaves less slots available to people just getting out to college who are ready to fill these positions. Times are changing. But the pay in fast food hasn't. It is time they keep up with the times. Especially considering the HELL these workers go through.
I highly doubt they will slash jobs once the wages go up. These a multi-billion dollar companies. If anything the prices may increase which should be fine. I think everyone deserves to be able to provide and support their families. No one is in ANY position to tell another what they should or shouldn't be making regardless of career/job.
and people are so quick to say "find another job" if finding another job was easy maybe, just maybe they would've done so already but I mean sometimes this is the job people want.
I work for USPS and our custodial staff makes 13.75, I mean pay these people. Shit a lot of part-time clothing stores and grocery stores are starting off at 10-11 an hour.

She was definitely cheated.
The more she works there, the more experience and knowledge she has about their company and products, and even customers. Which makes her, aside from a loyal employee, a very valuable employee.
There should be additional compensation for that. But that's the thing.....many people do not speak up. If you're not working for a great company that is proactive in rewarding their employees, you must make your voice heard.
But tbh, the whole "enough to make a living" argument is bigger than just minimum wage.
Am mean where I come from, 2k a month gets you luxury and SPACE. Which is how it should be imo. Imagine my surprise when I visit friends in bigger cities, and I'm waiting on them to show me my living space.... Gorl you're paying 2k for a damn CLOSET.
