The industry big wigs love any excuse to pay themselves on the back so I think they'll still be important. They'll probably stop televising some of them though: The AMAs, World Music Awards etc

If industry politics weren't involved people would tune in.

I'm waiting for the day when they just have a show where artists just show up to perform and leave the awards mess out of it.

I think that's why artists are more performance/festival-based these days.
