This year's music needed Justin Tranter.
The Semi Precious Weapons frontman is partly responsible for some of the best-performing songs in 2015, including many of Selena Gomez's Revival tracks, like "Good For You," "Revival," "Hands to Myself", "Me & the Rhythm", "Body Heat" and "Perfect." He also helped co-write Justin Bieber's "Sorry," Gwen Stefani's "Used To Love You" and Fifth Harmony's "Like Mariah."
Tranter tells NewNowNext he labels himself a queer artist, but writes songs that anyone can relate to and reimagine.
"When I first started writing music I wanted to be an extremely queer, political singer-songwriter," he said. "I do believe it is okay to label yourself a queer artist, and you can still appeal to straight people, because my point of view is specifically queer, because I am queer. But my experience can relate to all sorts of people."
Tranter is teaming up with songwriter Julia Michaels for Britney Spears' forthcoming record, dubbed B9, and by the sound of it... it's shaping up to be a monster record.
"Working with Britney is a f*cking dream," he said. "She is so sweet, so inspiring and a master on the mic. Me and Julia had to leave the studio one day because our screams of excitement after every take she did were distracting the producers."
