Quote"I cannot just go with what's hot."
Cardi B recently revealed plans to drop her sophomore album, tentatively titled Tiger Woods, next year. In a new Billboard interview, the Bronx rapper opened up about the challenges she's been facing while working on the follow-up to her No. 1 debut album, Invasion of Privacy.
After sharing that the project is on her mind "24/7," Cardi spoke about initially being hesitant about trying different sounds because they don't fit in with current trends. However, the MC eventually remembered staying true to herself is what worked for her in the first place.
"There's certain music that I want to do, but I feel like, 'Is people interested in that?'" she explained. "I feel like it's more like a twerk sound going on right now. It's just like, 'Should I just do my music around that?' But I cannot just go with what's hot. I still gotta go with what I want to do."
Cardi then gave insight into the strategy for recording her first album. "I wasn't going with what's hot. I was going with what I want people to hear, and what I like," she said. "So that's what I'm doing now. I'm just having fun in the studio 'cause if you think about 'Oh my gosh, my first album was like this. I got to have the same recipe,' it's just not going to work."
It's worth noting, however, that in an October 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Cardi spoke about the necessity of chasing popular sounds. "It's so sad to say, and I don't want to be the one to say it, but you gotta follow the trend," she said. "This generation loves to get high. They love to be on drugs. This is why they on that shit: They don't want to think about what you're saying."
In the end, Invasion of Privacy included a variety of sounds, from the trap rap of the 21 Savage-assisted "Bartier Cardi" to the poppier "Be Careful" to the Latin crossover of her chart-topping hit, "I Like It."
Elsewhere in the interview, Cardi spoke about the impact of her breakout hit, "Bodak Yellow." The rapper echoed her previous thoughts about its success opening more doors for women in rap.
"I feel like the music industry, the labels started to see that there is more to come with female artists," she said. "Like, it could happen, it could work. More than one could happen."

It'll be the same strip club themed music with a Travis Scott/Meek Mill/Rick Ross feature thrown in the mix
Thank god it want be an awful sequel. No Invasion of Privacy Reloaded mess with medication music.
IOP was a good ass album because it was trendy. She's a trendY artist but I definitely feel like it's worth the risk because that formula isn't gonna work this time around..

What was trendy about it? Her beats was hard af and everybody wanted them. Bodak, Be Careful, I Like It, Ring are timeless songs with universal lyrics and nothing was trendy about them. It would have been a trend if she did music like Travis. I think you girls just like to find shot at this point because it makes no sense at all. If that's the case, call Hard Core a trend too because it's an female rap bible that sound like it's time.
And please....barbs don't come in here talking about a fucking trend because I'm prepared to get on that cartoon playhouse Pink Friday and that horrible Jason sequel she attempt.
It's not a bad thing. Bodak, Money Bag, Drip, I Like It Bartier etc aren't trendy? :uhh:

The only trendy song on IOP is Drip and that was because it was a current Migos sound. Everything else was pure classic with updated Khia Thug Misses beats mixed with Kim Hard Core lyrics. Just perfect.
That's your best beat Tina girl lol
Cardi is the type of artist that always had to go with what's hot in order for anyone to notice her. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
all she did was drop an interview talking about her album and she was the most followed person yesterday. Not a SONG, an billboard interview. I can't make this shit up. She is in demand and the second album well do numbers.

Not as long as you waiting on a new Foxy Brown single bby
Oops
Not I Like It becoming the biggest female lead song of the decade . Trendy thought right? Fuck outta here.

What does any of this have to do with sounding trendy? No one's saying they're bad songs, they're trendy. The number one song this decade was Party Rock Anthem and it was trendy..
Nerves as Foxy going into a booth to record a new song
U know I meant Nervous. Don't try to get out of this.
