It's fucking crazy how quickly this mess is happening.
Just a week and a half ago mess was so different.

De Blasio considering NYC lockdown amid coronavirus surge

New York City's coronavirus cases have skyrocketed in less than a week from 25 on Monday to 269 Sunday as Mayor Bill de Blasio considers locking down the Big Apple to contain the outbreak.

"Every option is on the table in a crisis," de Blasio said Sunday morning on CNN.

"We've never seen anything like this," he said.

De Blasio expects the city's coronavirus tally to rise to 1,000 in the next few days.

"It's changing every hour so we're going to constantly make new decisions," de Blasio said about the dynamic public health emergency.

He also called on the Trump administration to assume a war-time footing.

"We need the federal government to take over the supply change right now," he said.

We need to stop the spread of this, that's what's gonna save lives. I understand now why containment is serious even though the virus isn't that deadly.

The point of the containment is more focused on the spaces available in the designated ICU areas.

Italy not initially doing a lockdown led to their being no spaces, breathing devices etc to help save lives.

Now imagine this mess in the US with the class systems. The uninsured  :plzstop:

My sister works at Mount Sanai in Manhattan and says the number of infected ppl has  jumped ridiculously. They barely have space in the ER anymore and they're trying to put them in different units

Just starting killing ppl with low survival rates or funds.

The mayor can keep delaying all he wants. The hunger games are here.

!!!

Can you believe people are still HUNCHING up in bars and restaurants in NYC , laughing and dancing...

My heart goes out to the business owners who will be affected and I know they are praying a shut down doesn't happen.

So far, they've been ordered to keep their capacity at HALF of what is allowed. So if your restaurant can sit 300 comfortably, you can only have 150 max right now.

They should have seen coming 0% capacity coming next. I def saw it inching there.

There's gonna be more deaths with this lockdown, so we damned if we do/damned if we don't. The moment we get an hour of a blackout the old girls drop dead.

this whole mess is exposing how unhealthy we are. I'm going vegan after this is over in 3 months

DeBlasio is most hesitant on shutting down schools because he knows a lot of single mothers out there relying on school to keep their kids while they work jobs that are most likely in the service industry somewhere and don't allow them to give a work from home mess. Not only that but, reliant on schools for breakfast and lunch because they are lower income.  :'(

That will devastate those families.

So that's why I actually appreciate him trying to hold out on certain things and making sure it's absolutely necessary before he just starts pressing buttons. But his hand will ultimately be forced.

I know that's why I said that, it's not the virus itself but the amount of people who will need breathing treatment and medical treatment at the same time is what will make the death toll rise.

I assume it would also be  devastating if the child infects the single mother and she ends up needing to be hospitalized. maybe the grandparents can look after the child then? It's just a shitty situation all around.

No shade but people are going to die regardless. That's just life. Even if you don't die, your respiratory system won't ever be the same and if another outbreak mess happens you're about just as good as dead. The grandparents would be more likely to end up in the hospital cuz of 'rona than the mother would.

the elderly and immunocompromised are at greatest risk for severe illness that would land them in a hospital. otherwise 80% of people who contract it will experience mild symptoms

but yea it's just crazy all around because ultimately the schools will have to close and the city will slowly shut down. i have never in my fucking LIFE. :uhh: :uhh:

we are watching a very historic moment in American history play out before our eyes.
i thought 9/11 would be the craziest thing i'd experience in my lifetime

i know the elderly are the highest risk group, that's why i said they can look after the child...wanted to show how it's a really hard situation to handle all around.

and what you said about this being a historic moment is true, but not only for the U.S., this shit is a historic moment for the wolrd.
