They're just now getting off their live.
They sang Brokenhearted (mostly Tori). And went up for the Human album, sang a little of Acapella (which Tori says is one of her faves by her). And they sang a lil' of Right Here (Departed).
H.E.R. especially went UP for her and said she learned how to really sing by listening to her. Said she's a legend and doesnt even know it.
Whew!!

Definitely! And I can see why the Human album stuck out more to Tori Kelly. Right Here was really her last Top 40 hit and it was actually played a lot on Pop radio. Brandy needs to add back Right Here to her set list and start singing Brokenhearted live again. The fact that everyone be singing the song besides her.

Oh easily. Tori knows the Human album. The Afro and 2/11 albums, doubt it. But the Human album really resonated with a lot of christian folk like Tori and the white audience. I used to hear Right Here on Top 40 radio all the time when I lived in AZ. Tori would kill the rangier songs on that album - its right up her lane.
"Right Here (Departed)" is an underrated Pop staple.
Truthfully speaking though, she needs to sing more of her singles. I know she may not think ppl know these songs because they werent huge hits, but people KNOW and LOVE these records. She could definitely do 1 verse of LD which would smooooothly transition into ADC and HYE.

I would love to hear those singles. She kinda stopped performing PID, too.

Brandy was goin' in on Human! Ugh, love that album!
Let's go Humans!!!
:gorlonfire: :gorlonfire: :gorlonfire:
I can understand why she wouldn't add Human songs to her set list. It's a complete deviation from traditional Brandy, which was kinda the issue in the first place
Idk who to blame for the direction of that album.

Ehhh it was too pop. Although her voice was phenomenal, it didn't feel like a Brandy album at all. I think she could have had some pop success with a different second single, but the album overall wasn't the right path. I mean, from Afrodisiac to Human??? She know damn well :dead:

i guess Human didn't bother me because i found out about the Afro and Human album in the same year. Never knew she released Afro. Full Moon was the last album i knew about until 2008. So i guess me knowing all the stuff Brandy had gone through, and with my own life problems, i had no problem with Human. It fit what i was going through in life.

It was too pop, I agree. However, Right Here performed better than TAOL or Who Is She 2 U. Afro wasnt a successful era like that either. A big part of the reason Human didnt perform so much was because Brandy was just gone for too long. Between that time, so many other artists kinda came in and took her spot as one of the leading R&B chicks. Long Distance was just a weak follow up single. But I dont think there was a single song on Human that coulda been a hit. At least w/ Two Eleven, we knew DYK or Slower woulda done some damage. The pop songs on Human were good, but just not strong enough to compete with the Beyonce's, Rihanna's, or even the damn Keyshia Cole's at the time.

This makes sense. I got into Brandy in 2004. Then I went and discovered her older stuff. Then when Human came out...I tried to stan but I still kept her old albums in rotation lol
I will say that I think Human is her strongest album vocally.

!!!! I know they wanted to come back acknowledging '06
but the album was too somber at a time when everyone was doing
the alter ego high energy pop
Her vocals were top notch but those singles weren't what non-vocalists wanted
so good to hear Acapella

Agreed. Even though Afro wasn't that successful, it was still a creatively dope album. I didn't feel that with Human.

I'm sorry guys. But during that era, I felt she shoulda released Piano Man as the 2nd single to get her ass back on the Urban charts. Some of us may not be a big fan of it now, but back then, it was the wave (the female version of Usher's Love In This Club if you will and also reminiscent of NeYo's Single). And just toss T-Pain on a remix mess.
Camouflage, Torn Down, etc wouldnt have really had a chance on radio. Then after she could close out the era with Camo.

It was the only song on the album that tied in with what was going on at the time. Fall is nice, but wouldnt have done much. Pop woulnt have touched it and Urban def wouldnt. And its too wordy in the chorus.
Let's just call it what it is. Rodney was giving away his good shit to other artists and giving Brandy "Mary Mary" leftovers.

hmmm nah, I'm still not feeling that excuse cuz she doesn't take the time to arrange Afrodisiac songs for the stage either
She just needs to hunker down and give fans what they want if she wants to have the best show possible. BUT I'm in stan mode right now so i won't rag on her for it

That was a terrible idea. And it makes sense now. Celine Dion? She definitely gave people too much power during that era. I can hear Rodney and execs telling her its gonna work and its what the current market wants. She was new to the label, so she just went with it. She was in a vulnerable state then so I get it.
But like Tori said, the album was def ahead of its time. It sounds even more amazing now.

I can understand why she wouldn't add Human songs to her set list. It's a complete deviation from traditional Brandy, which was kinda the issue in the first place
Idk who to blame for the direction of that album.
It wasn't the direction that was her problem, it was her lack of dedication .
Ehhh it was too pop. Although her voice was phenomenal, it didn't feel like a Brandy album at all. I think she could have had some pop success with a different second single, but the album overall wasn't the right path. I mean, from Afrodisiac to Human??? She know damn well :dead:

Someone that wrote one of the songs on the album told me that Epic records wanted to market her as the black Celine Dion
The executives literally sat up and said that. I kid you not.
Chileeeee that explains the album cover and photo shoot! She do look like a Black Celine Dion :dead:

Brandy was still in her 20s and had built her OWN legacy that so many young artists have tried to mimic, and they wanted her to be marketed like an older white woman?
I cannottttt
thats what i said. I was flabbergasted

That actually wasn't a bad idea tbh. She obviously has wayyyy more versatility but she could've developed a new fanbase with that route..
:uhh: :uhh:
That was a terrible idea. And it makes sense now. Celine Dion? She definitely gave people too much power during that era. I can hear Rodney and execs telling her its gonna work and its what the current market wants. She was new to the label, so she just went with it. She was in a vulnerable state then so I get it.
But like Tori said, the album was def ahead of its time. It sounds even more amazing now.
i will love it forever
I have a feeling Tori went back and dug into Bran's catalog a bit after this :kii:
I guarantee she's gonna sing one of her songs sooner than later

Now this song is that BITCH!!! The classic song of the album!!! The sound they should've went with!!!! If she just would've gave us that dark mess we really wanted and threw Porcelain Doll in the mix
:gorlonfire:
I get what you're saying from an "older" perspective but a black Celine Dion lane is pretty niche.

And continued with Timbaland. Tim was at his peak in 2008. I wouldve even taken Drum Life as a single over LD.

Oh let's not get started on the Timbaland mess... the fact Brandy and Timbaland fought for them last min sessions, delayed the album and the label didn't want to wait for his ad-libs to be completed to throw the tracks on the album smfh, I hope that decision maker is fired!!!!
The Timbaland tracks was a whole ass era!!!!!

She needs to throw this on her setlist and give a African tribe out mess ASAP!!!
I always said the Human album should've been called Drum Life and shoulda had drum heavy productions from Tim. An Afro part 2 mess. Tim woulda done a better job of havin Bran cater to both Pop and Urban. And just imagine her Human tone on those songs...whew!
But we love Human though lol.
And Drum Life is hands down one of Brandy's BEST vocal performances EVER.

If there was ever a time that she should've scrapped album is when Timbaland stepped in to record songs for Human... She should've known right then and there that his sound was the direction she wanted...

Everything happens for a reason because if she would've stayed with Epic ... we would have gotten an album that REALLY didn't make sense. Queen was about to lose herself working with Dream and Tricky on them throwaway ass songs
She can make ANYTHING sound amazing but it would not have been right. Whew
