How/why do you guys go up for gospel girls so much? I think it's cool but where does it come from?

Most people who are regarded as brilliant singers come from the church. The music from the church and that style of singing is the reference point, especially for R&B. I took an African American music history course in undergrad, and the whole semester, we traced every genre of music back to gospel and blues lol
The Clark Sisters are the pioneers of a style that will probably live on forever. The way they blend, their harmonies, the vocal acrobatics...they've been the blueprint for 40+ years. They broke the mold. Truly legends.
I like Karen kinda subdued like this

Jackie is one of those singers that can't find the harmony in a new key. That's what threw her off. Also, Twinkie is not there to either sing with her or give her a note.

It was really cool to see how after 40+ years of singing professionally, they still depend on Twinkie for their notes :plzstop:

I'm not too big into gospel but I did some research after watching this and still don't hear what everyone else is hearing lol.
Their harmonies are ok. Karen and Dorinda are beast solo tho.
And something about that Terrell he is not my type but something about him makes me wanna eat the cake
Really? The Clark Sisters are probably the illest group I've ever heard lol. You gotta get into some of their catalogue. They clearly inspired the greats, Brandy included. Literally no one was singing like them. I think their blend is what makes them so special, even more-so than their harmonies. The way they went up and down scales as ONE and then broke out into harmonies :plzstop:. Their tone, melismas...just incredible.
The Clark Sisters were also very progressive. They were doing R&B gospel back in the 70s-80s lol. I remember hearing how Twinkie was inspired by Stevie when she wrong You Brought the Sunshine.
I just finished watching and he know he be putting on. Not NONE of that blessed me. Jackie coulda stayed her ass at home

Yea imma watch the movie and see
If that sparks anything. But yea I was up on YouTube looking and listening for like a half hour last night and didn't really get it
TV One did an Unsung some years back that was super educational. Not sure if the whole thing is still on YouTube. I was already into them, but that's when I REALLY was like "oh snap...they are not of this world." I hope the movie tells their story but also explores how influential they are.

Honestly, I thought it was hilarious that they kept talking about these super tight ass harmonies and then proceeding to open their mouths and sound a scattered ass fool
Excited about this movie tho. Love Dorinda, the girl that plays Dorinda, and Kierra. Love all them

But yeah, this isn't really the best indication of what they can do. It was taped early in the morning and they all in their mid 50s+ so "Song Association" probably wasn't the best way to go 💀

Not too much on Jackie in here.
She buried her husband three days before this was recorded, it was early morning and she is 71 years old.
