They did. I think out of respect, he asked Tamia first since it was her song but she couldn't. Then he went to Ashanti (who I'm sure he always wanted to work with :)) and she did it. Fab was happy that it turned out that way but when Ashanti couldn't promote it with him at the time, he went back to Tamia 🤷🏾♂️. Tamia wasn't hot and couldn't add much to his status as an up and coming artist then but Shanti could.
