Title: India Arie speaks candidly about Brandy’s B7 Album and it’s uniqueness
Post by: b7 on August 09, 2020, 03:13:38 PM
In the first two minutes, India talks about severing ties with "Hollywood" aspect of the industry and people's expectations of her and how she should be and carry herself

She then tied that in to her own expectations of Brandy as a STAN and how she had to listen to B7 without overthinking. It ended up lashing her back :kii:

Not one lie told. I even had to approach B7 with no expectation stemming from Brandy's previous albums. Once I treated B7 as its own New body of work with absolutely no expectation of a full moon or afrodosiac, I loved and appreciated it so much more.

I'm in love with brandy the artist. Not brandy the full moon or brandy the afrodisiac. But the artist as a whole. So I appreciate each body of work differently for different reasons. If I want FM I go play full moon. But it sometimes seems like people want to hear FM in everything she does and that's crazy. We don't expect a painter to create the same art so why so we expect that from our singers?

Love India for always speaking her truth.

!!! I sum it up to fanaticism and this idea of folk obsessing over or thinking an artists owes them "this" or "that" because that's what was delivered in the past, but if you truly appreciate an artist for their artistry and who they are, then you can appreciate all that they put their heart into. Like India said, you don't have to like everything to love it, but artists get sorely penalized if they don't deliver for consumer consumption.

This is def an album to sit with and appreciate the story told and Brandy's authenticity.

Hopefully Brandy will consider taking High Heels off the deluxe and giving us "Follow Your Heart"  :dead:

It's one of the "weaker" songs but that's not saying much at all! It's still my shit. But I can imagine the album without it and baby mama.

But anyway, i really loved this honest take and the fact that Brandy shared it.

i have a feeling she shared this clip because of EVERYTHING India talked about, even outside of B7.  Artistic freedom and not wanting to be a part of the fake industry shit any longer.

They're no longer conforming or doing bullshit for social media that the girls think they should be doing. Forget about it and enjoy ur faves that are in their 20's and give af about fitting in to certain spaces. They deserve to do that and get all of the success they can get, but Brandy and India have experienced that a million times over.

It's not an awful song whatsoever but it just messes up the flow and doesn't fit the body overall. They sound beautiful on it and I actually like the singing and music on it.

i gave the alber a chance cuz although i didnt GET it at first
i could tell GHan was laying something down that was very genuine and unique

i'd much prefer an album i have to take time to GET
than an album that i understand 100% first listen but just don't use cuz it sounds contrived or late.

I love her praise of Brandy, and also her honesty about needing to sit with it and get into it to hear it for what it really is.

If she sits with it a bit longer she will realize that High Heels is a perfect fit.

I'm so ready for a bossy video to go with it for Sy'Rai to officially debut for the public ... I refuse to jump on the High Heels is trash bandwagon.

It's not what I thought it was going to be about lyrically at all.. I was expecting a song about her playing in her moms high heels as a kid and now understanding her mom as a woman and wanting to walk in her shoes as an adult and singer in the business etc

But a bossy bitch song about being so good in her own skin and proud of herself that not one hater can bring her down is good enough for me. I just know the universe is bringing out all the haters to see if she really means what she said in the song or not.. if she really means it then your hate will just slide right off her back and it should be a single with a video..

If she doesn't really mean what she's singing about then by all means leave it as an album cut.

I hope she decides to be BOSSY and slay you bitches.

India with the honesty about HH whewwww my girl is FREE and I knew she wouldn't like this album at first.
:plzstop:

I just  :ohwow: with all the listening sessions...nobody told her to leave High Heels and Baby Mama off the record. Not that they are bad songs and they do fit in the sequence but I just feel like there were much stronger songs that could have gone on and kept the moody and wet fill of the album. Give us an ole nasty Melancholy and Follow Your Heart. Its just when you hear HH in comparison to Brandy's catalogue it just doesn't hold up.

Put Brandy, POP, an inspirational together and BOMB! Haha, love it! I adore brandy as a music artist PERIOD. Yeah, Human is POP, but she put her stamp on it!

High heels and baby mama just don't fit at all to me though . I wouldn't say I don't like It they just don't fit the vibe to me. Kinda like TURN IT UP on Afro .I've heard some fans say it's the best song on B7 lmao!!!

It was def Human I think. India don't like pop music I bet and Human has sprinkles of it throughout.

rather be is the only timeless record on this album

but after 8  years ppul just expect to be blown away
through our unfounded  expectations of brandy we are learning to be in a more neutral space in general
we rush to rank albums and its like   who is that helping? except ur ego
and b7 and whatever it is is making us appreciate other bodies of work of hers more
cause this album is unique enough where it couldnt be boxed in the old paradigm of  "this new mess will blow everything out the water" no it has its own space an d purpose  and you need to appreciate it as such

Musically I listen to the album and dont desire something more  like i dont know what more to expect at this point its just a sit back and take it in moment

we still have her full discography so there really shouldnt be complaints musically
now this mixing thing is a whole nother story but yeah

ive been saying this brandy clinging has to end need to care alot less about what she does creativley
and put the energy into something else

I disagree. The majority of the songs are pretty timeless.

I stopped listening to rather be when the album came out. It aged comparatively to the rest. I can see why brandy felt it didn't fit

You only say that because you heard it before. I'm sure you dnt listen to Baby Mama or Love Again as much when compared to the rest of the album. RB is one of the best songs on there

Yeah it was def 2/11. Who tf would try to work out to the Human album  :dead:
Right Here, Warm It Up, the Definition, First & Love, Camouflage, Piano Man
lets not act like Human is a slow, sleepy album that you cant exercise to
Thank you, they act like Human is just a sad and droopy album and its really not besides Long Distance, True, Acapella and Shattered Heart (but even this is kinda a bop)

I bet the album she's referring to is Human

that's always the album the soulful girls take to least from what I've seen
not true !!! But 2/11 vocally something was missing!! But I love India honesty but I will have too say b7 is my least favorite album. I just appreciate brandy not stopping music
