It is easy to claim this but we simply don't know all of her ancestors.

They should know there is a lot of debate about this. In renaissance art there were artists who chose to picture her as a black woman. There is a possibility she had a Nubian ancestor, even if it is difficult to say.
They could have picked Zendaya or something if they wanted to be 'safe'. They should have just picked Lupita to make a statement about being inclusive, she deserves the role. But it is easier to pick a white actress..
And even if it is not historically correct that Cleopatra was black, they should be aware Cleopatra is a powerful symbol. They should be more sensitive to that in my opinion.
And just because she was Greek doesn't mean she looked like a white girl from Israel. They could have chosen someone who looks a bit more Arab. The Israel-Palestine territorial conflict and the history of Israel vs Egypt doesn't help either.

This is not the first time that Gadot, who became a beauty queen at age 18 in 2004 and then went on to join the Israeli Army, has caused controversy. Gadot joined the Israeli Defence Forces to finish her two years of mandatory military training. In 2014, right before the release of her new DC movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, she had stirred controversy as being "pro-IDF" after she shared a post in support of the forces on her Facebook page. She also put up a photograph pf herself and her little daughter praying for the Israeli troops, weeks after Israel launched Operation Protective Edge.
