SMH. That's crazy.
She was the funniest one on the damn show.
:uhh:
I don't blame her. She was the funniest cast member. Her Whitney & Oprah impersonations are iconic.
She basically left cuz she felt disrespected

I LOOOOOVE HER! Out of all the reboots they're doing, I'd be so here for a Madtv reboot. SNL ain't it. The Black Lady Sketch show on hbo missed the mark.

Whatever she did after Mad tv, I'm sure she was making much much MUCH less. In fact, this is the first time many of us are hearing about her SINCE Mad Tv. So if we are talkin "valued", I hope she was highly valued on Sharknado's set. Or when she played a security guard on one episode of the show for the guy who played Joey on Friends....

I was with mo'nique til she started calling people slaves and mess .
She's always spoke out about racial inequality from her days at the apollo
but the Netflix tea really showed a different side of her - and how nasty she can get when ppl don't see where she's coming from , no matter how much she tried to disguise it with a "oooh hey sugar dumpling! " tea.

Debra WAS MADTV. Her portrayals of Whitney and Oprah were fucking ICONIC. Not to mention her other characters....

Debra was definitely the only reason I tuned in
but we're looking thru a black lens on this
Stacey dash was the only reason I gave a shit about clueless and was the focus for me ...and the whole show for me
same for Lisa turtle in SBTB.
but I'm sure to the execs, they were just tokens thrown in to keep blacks dialed in and watching along with everyone else . Filling in their checklist and quotas .
and that seems to be the way Debra was being treated . I'm glad she up and left . The show eventually went to hell where it belongs
Saturday night live has NEVER been funny to me. The funniest thing they've done for me is "the day Beyonce turned black" ndnfnfnf ndnfnfnf It's the only thing they've done that has value to me (just as debras iconic impersonations of Whitney Oprah etc are mostly the only things of value for me with the other show)
but I'm sure to most of their white viewers every SECOND of that boringshow is a riot
well glad she seems to be healthy, sane, and stable now
I wish she had more mainstream success afterward

And the events that were taking place in 2020.
They even created a section called "Black Lives Matter" during that time.
And I don't believe it was a coincidence that all of our favorite black sitcoms came storming in last year.
"Black Stories" and "Black Lives Matter" sections are still there on Netflix - which wasn't the case before.
There is a correlation.
Period.
And fuck you, Yummy.

I'm talking about George Floyd... and the following events that took place.
But Monique is still a part of the discussion in some capacity - however "little".
And Vonc, you know I'm speaking truth.

Ralf, I don't agree with u, ok? I don't think Monique and her "Pay me MORE" plight had anything to do with Netflix including those sections and definitely not producing, backing, and funding black materiel because there was an ABUNDANCE of it before. White people were in an uproar when they got wind of Dear White People coming to Netflix but that didn't deter them from proceeding. Ava Duvernay literally did an interview where she said they were THROWING her money to do her 13th documentary. Netflix has shown themselves inclusive in that way. Do i think things are fair across the board? Absolutely not. Do i think they offered Monique less because she's black? ABSOLUTELY not. They didn't value her that much and that's their right.......... and apparently no one else does either, that's why her ass is outta work

She's always spoke out about racial inequality from her days at the apollo
but the Netflix tea really showed a different side of her - and how nasty she can get when ppl don't see where she's coming from , no matter how much she tried to disguise it with a "oooh hey sugar dumpling! " tea.
She started getting super disrespectful and condescending .

This shit is everywhere.
And this is why I hate how y'all come for Mo'Nique.
!!!!!!
Mo'nique kinda got Netflix celebrating all things black now. She opened up this whole conversation in a major way whether people want to acknowledge it or not.

I'm sorry but yea. Monique didn't change a damn thing. Period! Anyone that's had 'flix for a minute knows they've kinda been on this black wave.
It's the other streaming apps that weren't paying the niggers any mind. And even still, that has nothing to do with Monique and those saggy bat wings.
she should've done like Wanda and moved to a new platform when she felt she was lowballed. But no, Mo' is a MENT girl.
That's foul but commonplace back then. She helped carry this damn show

I wish people would stop believing it's illegal to discuss wages with coworkers (IT'S NOT!!) You can share with each other, your employer just can't discuss someone else's wages with you. It's literally against the law for employers to reprimand an employee for talking about their own wages... Companies just want you to believe this nonsense bc it allows them to underpay you or just pay someone else more.
With that being said...I would've left too once they said no negotiations.

Reread what I wrote. George Floyd and following events is what I believe pushed Netflix to do more. Are you arguing that? Ignoring it?
Are you choosing to focus only on Monique to disagree with me?
What is it?

You honestly don't see a correlation between 2020, George, the events to what Netflix started to do?
I am not talking about Monique.
But we're in here talking about Monique :dead:
OF COURSE the state of the world inspired that stuff and I would moreso say it was Netflix picking a side.....a side they've ALWAYS been on. What does any of that have to do with Monique tho, which is what we were talking about

Conversations can develop... and me mentioning George Floyd was relevant to the conversation and how it proceeded. So yeah.
And if you want to be technical - the thread is about Debra...
Whose situation is apparently NOTHING like Mo'nique's... (sarcasm)
:ohwow:
So discussions can evolve... yeah.
And I mentioned Netflix - and acknowledged that they did MORE since 2020/societal events.

Mo'nique toured every single damn TV show and radio outlet calling Netflix out. Do think Netflix did NOTHING to mitigate the damage done.
Also if you look at the timeline to when these contracts were signed and when Mo'nique was touring you would see a clear correlation.
Any lawyer worth a damn would have used the Monique fiasco to their clients advantage.
If this ain't DAMAGE I don't know what is. :feelinmyself:
