his grandparent was a  black haitian and he did his best to hide it.
and not only hide it, but went out of his way to punish black haitians and try to create a "pure" country

when he himself wasn't even "pure".

um, are they not checking documents? how are the girls in danger of being "swept up"?

If someone "looks Haitian" they're gonna check them out .

I think It's a good warning to put out cuz if someone wanders off somewhere just for a few minutes without their passport handy in their pocket ... not knowing what's going on and thinking they'll be fine since they'll BRB to the hotel

...they could end up in a very fucked up situation . Randomly stopped and Detained by authorities until they get proof they are American

Or god forbid someone LOSES their document while over there and is spotted and detained .

who knows how they'll be treated during that time . Or how cooperative and helpful DR authorities will be as the American tries to retrieve their documents .

It's clear they're not very fond of black people so I doubt they'll be serving three course meals and giving white glove service as you wait.

Theres definitely risk involved worth considering . They're not saying don't go there ... they're saying be very careful . It's valuable advice IMO

what i bolded is exactly what  happened to this woman

she actually shared her story months ago before the warning was widespread

-> she left passport at hotel not thinking it could be a problem, and went out to explore

-> was randomly and RUDELY stopped by immigration officer who didn't even give her a reason why he stopped her. just demanded to see her passport.

-> it was only until a DR citizen ran across to vouch for her in some way where the cop let her go.
otherwise, they were clearly prepared to detain her/take her away.

-> she specifically spoke on the treatment and how she definitely felt the approach/interaction with the cop was dripping with racism
he wasn't even trying to be professional or give her the benefit of the doubt in any way. she was clearly stopped because of how she looks
