So me finding Derek's work corny is somehow an attack on black artists in general? Where is the correlation

But Derek is known for things like embodying/representing Atlanta , Black art, etc

So a girl coming for him may be seen differently by different folks.

And that goes for anyone. Not just someone who's of the Asian Caucasian persuasion.

the girls are free to express their opinion of his work without all that extra BS attached. his mess is very BASIC and the alter ego thing wasn't ground-breaking by any means at the time, you just didn't see BLACK folk playing with it. which, kudos to him. however, his results were usually a MESS. and that's exactly what people pick up on. no one has to pretend he slays just because he's black just like we don't have to pretend tyler perry's work isn't absolute shit.

And @ivorian oph when I say "try Tyler Perry" I don't mean someone saying something like "I didn't like that movie . Actually I don't like any of his movies."

More so the "Tyler is pure trash. Very ghetto. Only certain type of black people like his stuff lolz"
