Yesss, Jean Paul Goude used physical retouch methods in the 70s when there was no computer let alone Photoshop.
Cutting up photos, putting together a collage. Painting over them. Pretty sure he also used chemicals to merge certain areas?

I've been trying to find books about retouching for the longest. Most of it is about digital retouching.
