Ru just comes from a different era/generation

as bold and fierce as god/dess is , he's not immune to conformity/assimilation

but i don't think RuPaul ever forgets who he is and where he's from.

to hold a much older queen to 2026 standards of wokeness isn't completely fair. saying he wants to be a white woman is pretty harsh - and referencing Blond wigs as evidence isn't the strongest argument.

the other day someone commented,  "your (talking) voice reminds me of RuPaul" ....and i took it as a compliment . so i would def consider him a Black gay icon

Andre Leon Talley was another one who got similar criticism for certain things . Billy Porter is another one.

but again, these are much older queens from different times. i get it. it's not like they're just blatantly anti-Black.

I can understand someone saying that actually

Gilgamesh.

I think two things can be true, Rupaul being the first celebrity Drag Queen and a Black man is statement in itself; but Ru is very white-affiliated, his partner, his MUA, pretty much all the creative team on Drag Race and he regularly leans into stereotypical representations of Blackness.

Jon

Ru is very much an icon and legend. He's "problematic" but most ppl his age are or have been. lol

Ru and Tyra actually remind me a lot of each other.

they both have that funny "code switch" thing they do. where they randomly bust into ghetto-isms and then snap back into "professionalism"

i'd say Ru is much funnier with it though. "she done already done had herzzzzzzes!" never fails to tickle me

and it's perfectly fine with me cuz there are plenty of non-Black people and whole corporations out here profiting off of AAVE and all of our "-ism"s. from social media to packaging for food products. So im all for seeing an actual Black person profit off of it too.

if companies can put mess like "deez chips is a vibe!" on their packaging, and no one bat an eye..... let king have his fun.

but going deeper than just their silliness/silly moments, they both kinda have this underlying vibe of "yea im black and i aint gonna deny that BUT i aint gon be out here protestin and raising fists wit yall. lemme get my bag and keep me owt that group chat."

and i think that's what a lot of people may be picking up on. and i can understand that cuz i sense it too. but i wouldn't demonize them for it. it's a choice. what i think makes up for it is that their existence in itself has inspired many people who look like them to pursue things JUST because they saw them on TV and it made them believe it was possible. someone could argue that them taking up space in their respective lanes was a bit of a protest in itself - especially Tyra dominating the modeling industry.

do i think it would be nice to see Ru a lil more vocal on some things? yeah.  but i wouldn't go as far to say he's self-hating or anti-Black. ultimately he's an entertainer and not every entertainer (ESPECIALLY ones from his generation) wants to feel as if certain responsibilities are on their plate, and/or they very much try their best to stay away from being labeled as "the ANGRY BLACK WOMAN/MAN".

Justice Jackson

Yeah, agree with what yall are saying

Justin is right a lot of the time, but tbh he is always looking for something to be problematic. This is really not the time to be putting people through all these ultra woke purity tests with everything already going on in the country against us. You can't just throw a whole career and legacy away because somebody isn't perfect or has a few character flaws
Ketanji Jackson has come this far by faith.

Ketanji Brown will still beatcho ass.

klappa.

who is he? "king of reads"

any references or noteworthy drags?
