Herb  :stressed:
it's so cool that you've lined out your heritage with pics and all, you're great grandpa looks EXACTLY like my grandpa on my mothers side.

I think I'm gonna do this, and my Grandmother was clearly of mixed heritage and nobody KNOWS anything
:hmph:
we just know they had STRONG native features, like... her and her brother and sister could pass for native american

but she's passed, her brother passed, so how would I find out what her make up was?
her younger sister is still living, would I need a sampler of her dana?

I hate that this happened to her. She was everything.

hey bvy

If your grandmother was of Native descent there should be evidence somewhere, check to see where her parents lived and what their names were. Native Americans always stuck together and there are specific areas where they settled. Check where her parents and grandparents lived, and what their names were. Natives who are deep into their culture will usually give their children names that seem a little odd.

But it's good to keep in mind that sometimes as Black people we see features that don't look too much like what "Black features" should look like in skin, facial structure, hair, etc. and kind of run to the conclusion of Native heritage. It could be admixture from somewhere else. Definitely do the research, check through Census records, birth records, etc of your great grandparents and their parents. That's the best way to do it. And also very accurate way of finding out which tribe they would descend from.
