in terms of replacing these slave stories for fictional stories, I don't think there's a need for that either. There definitely needs to be a balance, but right now, we definitely aren't seeing that. I don't take Kevin Hart or Tyler Perry seriously, in terms of film-making. They're here to play and write the stereotypes that they know will sell. It is necessary to fill in the newer generation on what did occur in the past, but those stories shouldn't be the only way for ethnic people to be represented, given a platform and a budget, or to be acknowledged by the Academy.

Spike is a visionary and definitely shits all over Tyler Perry. I think it comes down to the machine promoting their specific projects and also the fact that people are more drawn to watch less-heavy subjects in cinema. That's what's beautiful about fictional, blockbuster films; the same core ideas that could be introduced in a history lesson are presented in a fantastical way that doesn't feel didactic.

No, yeah, I live for his plays. I remember back in in the day a bit, with a box of catfish in hand, poppin' in Madea's Class Reunion and mess and living I can watch that shit back to back. He's not the best writer or director in terms of cinema tho. But he's definitely a gifted actor and is hilarious. Spike and Tyler both earned their spots.

All I'm wanting to see is moviemakers of their caliber flex their creativity a bit. Shake it up for the public.
