Thats what makes it interesting imo. Open to interpretation. The father probably never touched that boy. I think through the subtle interactions nd nuances of their reltionship, the boy's admiration and infatuation with his dad from a young age turned into obsession and sexual abuse. The way the made the dad seem a little creepy in the beginning, sorta peeking into the the kid's room, and encouraging him to masturbate was a good way to stir the pot and throw us off when the son ended up being the perp. In his book, the dad questioned what he did to make his son treat him like that. If he'd been guilty of abusing him, he wouldnt have to wonder.
