PRINCE, GEORGE MICHAEL: CAN YOU GUESS WHO'S PAYING TRIBUTE TO THESE ICONS ON THE GRAMMYS?

The Recording Academy has announced plans to honor two-time GRAMMY winner George Michael and seven-time GRAMMY winner Prince with two unforgettable tribute segments on the 59th GRAMMY Awards. Specific details for the tribute performances, including who will participate in each, have yet to be disclosed.

Previously announced performers for the 59th GRAMMY Awards include Adele, Kelsea Ballerini, William Bell, Chance The Rapper, Gary Clark Jr., Daft Punk, Andra Day, Cynthia Erivo, Tori Kelly, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, John Legend Little Big Town, Demi Lovato, Lukas Graham, Bruno Mars, Metallica, Maren Morris, Anderson .Paak, Katy Perry, Sturgill Simpson, A Tribe Called Quest, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and The Weeknd.

"George Michael and Prince were pop icons who showcased rare musical genius and otherworldly charisma," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "While each possessed a distinct style and sound, they were both adored by audiences worldwide. The passings of two such creative innovators were a huge loss for the creative community; The Recording Academy is humbled to pay homage to their tremendous legacies on the GRAMMY stage."

Michael received his first career GRAMMY nomination with Wham for 1984 for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go." He won his first career GRAMMY for 1987 for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)," a duet with Aretha Franklin. The following year, Michael took home the coveted Album Of The Year award for Faith, his debut solo album that featured four No. 1 hits: "Faith," "Father Figure," "One More Try," and "Monkey."

Prince broke out big at the 27th GRAMMY Awards, winning his first three career GRAMMYs: Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (with Prince And The Revolution) and Best Album Of Original Score Written For A Motion Picture Or A Television Special (Purple Rain) and Best Rhythm & Blues Song for "I Feel For You." His GRAMMY wins also include Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (with Prince And The Revolution) for "Kiss" (1986) and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Future Baby Mama" (2007). Three of his albums have been inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame: 1999 (inducted 2008), Purple Rain (2011) and Sign O' The Times (2017).

The GRAMMY telecast has a long lineage of tribute performances celebrating music icons, including tributes in recent years to David Bowie (Lady Gaga), Glenn Frey (Eagles with Jackson Browne), Etta James (Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys) and Whitney Houston (Jennifer Hudson).

Taking place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast live in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network, Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Award-winning television personality and performer James Corden is set to host Music's Biggest Night for the first time.

The 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards are produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich is executive producer, Louis J. Horvitz is director, Ben Winston is a producer, and David Wild and Ehrlich are the writers.
