With all the recent slayage at the box office and with tv ratings through the roof though, it's time Re-negotiate those contracts :dead:
Progress is being made but ultimately this is just still a very white country - it's going to take a lot more time but visibility is more important than who's top 10 on a list. I'm excited about the Black Panthers movie.

And I wouldn't blame a woman of color for just being thankful that she's working as long as the salary is livable. I'm sure the boat could be rocked but it's risky. We see what happened to Toni from Girlfriends when she allegedly said "no dice" to her salary for an upcoming season. Where have we really seen her since?
true but this is as good a time as any. When Toni tried that 10 years ago, yea ..  horrible idea mainly because no one was on her side. Now with social media and a world of other actresses that would surely see it your way, you can make a push for more in an organized classier way IMO

Rocking the boat with no plan or tact is a mistake no matter what decade we're in, I do agree on that.
I see what you mean but at the end of the day it's much easier for us to say "Girl ask for more money!" from the comfort of our own home. Not every person is gonna be a Monique and really go against the grain to get what she really deserves.

Monique had some very valid points in regards to the way she was treated, money she was owed, respect she deserved etc. But ultimately, how did she end up? Branded as an angry Black woman, a bitch, an ungrateful diva - that's what they tried to do. A lot of people fell for it.

But anyone who looks at Moniques history can see she's always been very outspoken - I was just watching a clip of her from the Apollo back in the day and as she hosted the show years and years ago, she dared to dabble a bit in racial mess and make pretty bold statements. This proves that her stance and her statements weren't some result of "oh! Oscar! Now I'm a diva!" . It was her DEMANDING the respect and support she deserves for an actress of her caliber. She had EVERY right to do it and I saw nothing wrong with it.

But, again.....How did that work out for her? This is what I'm talking about. I agree that people have the right to rock the boat, but I wouldn't fault anyone who chose not to.
yes but it's also how you go about it.  Monique is a prime example of lacking that tact I was talking about, along with her husband who I'm sure is even worse. I'm sure it's getting better for black actresses overall, but hopefuly the veterans can step up and continue starting their own production companies as well. Viola is slaying

But sometimes tact can be subjective....I think Monique handled herself pretty well - every time I see her speaking on it she's never cursing anyone out, or demeaning anyone, etc. She speaks her mind.

Lee Daniels said she was blacklisted for being "unreasonable". Not untactful.

This is what I'm talking about.
all the way up until she got on stage and literally cursed them all out sdsdds but i see what ur saying. I just personally think its
going to take more than one single woman to stand up and do it. I definitely dont expect anyone to put their own career on the line. It needs
to be a group mess IMO of all the veteran actresses with Clout. And who knows, maybe some white actresses will stand beside them like the Oscars so
white mess.

Look at all the change that was made with the academy now

I didn't see the footage of her cursing them out, but I'm assuming that's once things escalated as opposed to when she originally approached Lee with the "unreasonable demands" that he referenced.

I agree that they'll always be more power in numbers but I think we're kind of here >><< with the fact that it's risky and some people are content.

And I think it's worth noting that actresses are paid in advance based on the assumed return of investment. So this puts the ball in our court as well as Black consumers. It's up to us as well - maybe more than the actresses themselves, to invoke change. This means - the more that we go out and support - the more that we say YES to every Black film released (yes, this includes Tyler Perry movies), the more we say YES to Black series. The more we say YES to "EBT", the more that marketability increases for these Black actresses and actors in general.
!!!!!

I'm ready to show up and OUT for black Panth'

Sovereign.
