Kaeli.

I'm pretty sure the reason blacks are slaying more these days is because of streaming.

They stream more and now it's harder for Labels and such to cherry pick/shove white artists down our throats.

We have the power :ohwow:

Katy took herself out tbh

The image change, dyke haircut and political mess was her downfall

I hate to agree with you but... yeah.

People use her for her cute, quirky and fun songs. Idk why she wanted to be fake woke so bad.

But let's not completely count out the cracks

JB and Ed Sheeran still have the two biggest hits of the year & Ed has the biggest selling Alber. (Until Taylor eclipses him week 1)

Yeah. Rap songs dominate the streaming charts.
And pop songs are usually front loaded with lots of initial interest that dies down after 3 weeks. Where rap songs tend to build.
It also helps that streaming beats out airplay. So pop radio can't just block urban music out like they've been doing this whole decade.

Didn't Justin get removed from Despacito after that racist parody he did?

It has nothing to do with politics.

A white woman has been #1 for the last 3 weeks.  Ed Sheeran was #1 for 11 weeks. Bieber was #1 for 16 weeks.

When the formula of how Billboard comprises the Hot 100 changes, it always shakes shit up. Pop AirPlay and iTunes ruled for a decade.  Without Pop airplay, you didn't stand a chance.

Now, streaming trumps everything in the new formula.  And it's showing more people are streaming hip hop than any other genre.  So, that's why Uzi, Future & Quavo are scoring Top 10s in their sleep.  And it's why Cardi will be #1 next week.  "Bodak Yellow" doesn't have Taylor's airplay, but she's killing her in streams.

Also, I think what we're seeing is that Pop airplay and Payola fooled people into believing certain artists were popular.  Z100 putting your song into power rotation was more politics than it was a true reflection of what's hot.

Now, the people are deciding what charts.  And artists like Katy are exposed, because streams are proving no one is listening to that shit.

Radio & the label manipulation lost its power.  Plain and simple.
