I think the one that's always been a bit awkward to me are people who consistently refer to their half-siblings as half.

Like, "Went to go see my half brother today".

I mean technically it's right . But I have half brothers and I just call them my brothers.

To me adding the half is like saying, "Yeah you're my brother but you're not reallly really realllyyyyyy my brother."

Now if it were to add context in introducing them to someone then I'd say it. But even then I'd soften it by saying "we share  the same dad" or something.

Just sounds better to me.

!!!!!!!

My mom has half siblings and I've never once heard her refer to them as half-anything.

My mom only refers to her half-sisters as her half sisters when they've pissed her off.
I feel like it?s usually some petty shit when folks do that

Sinpool

Calling somebody your half sibling pisses me off.

You can't be half related to a person you either are or you aren't.

j

it's usually pettiness

Like how the girls will call a man sis, girl, sister to insult him if they think he's DL
but refuse to call a trans woman the same because she actually wants to be called that.

I feel the same.

I mean I call some of my Black coworkers sister and brother

Why the hell would I add "half" to someone who actually has blood ties to me fsfsfsffss

But I guess it could depend on how close they are to someone . I can definitely understand someone saying "my half sibling" when referring to someone they've just discovered or just met. It happens.
U know what?s crazy
I think I?ve only heard females use the half thing
Never a male

I say "My moms aunt"

cxxxxxxxxxxx

I dont know those people.

I only acknowledge immediate family as such
Definitely don't do this either.  I know "my mom's aunts".  so to answer the original question, i just call them my aunt unless  i need to say 2nd cousin or great aunt, which u never need to do

Agreed

What situations are you being put in where you need to go into detail outside of your immediate family

It's funny cause my cousin just called me her nephew the other day.

She's around the same age as my mom, but my mom is her aunt so I guess that's why it's so easy to mix up.
yeah this is normal tbh

My mother hates that ?half? mess, me and my sister have the same dad, but my brother?s dad is my ex step dad. We call him our brother.

She would fume if she heard us call him
Our ?half brother?

Has anyone ever heard the ?rule? that siblings that share a mother only are whole siblings but those with different mothers and the same father are half?

Right. The whole notion of separating if you share a parent by blood makes no sense to me.

Now if people choose to call their step-siblings that, I can understand that.

You can definitely lean more towards one side of your family in appearance though.

I took a lot after my mother's side while my half brother is my father's clone. Like literally - even down to his very slim frame (although he regularly eats up to 10 pancakes at a time) and everything.

But inside of me, it's still half from mom and half from the father.

Yeah. I agree.

My maternal and paternal side are completely different.

My mom?s side of the family are full of educators and majority of them have a degree or more, pretty mild-mannered, intelligent, but will still give a bit of attitude when pushed.

My dad?s side is full of fighters, some were drug dealers lol and they are just hood af. Lol but it?s a HUGE family compared to my mom?s side
