Definite Games

QuoteThe Definite E3 2019 Games

Cyberpunk 2077

Platform(s): Xbox One, PS4, PC
Release date: TBC

If you've missed out on it so far (somehow), this is the latest open-world RPG from CD Projekt Red, of Witcher 3 fame, but rather than dealing with fantasy beasties and magic, this time it's all about the future, a first-person perspective, dialogue options galore, and being a low-level gun for hire on the streets of Night City. Cyberpunk 2077 basically dominated last year's E3 2018 lineup, so we strongly expect it to do the same again this year. Developer CD Projekt Red has already confirmed the game will be at this year's show, also adding that E3 2019 will be the most important in the studio's history. Last year delivered an hour-long hands-off demo that you can watch above, so it may well mean that this year we're going hands-on with the game for the first time. Expect lots of neon, cybernetics, futuristic cities and awesome-looking characters filling your Twitter timelines come June. Sam Loveridge

Marvel's The Avengers

Platform(s): TBC
Release date: TBC

Back in 2017, Square Enix announced that it had entered into a "multi-year, multi-game licensing agreement to develop and publish original games based on beloved Marvel Super Heroes, beginning with The Avengers." Since then though, we'd heard nothing about the game, until Geoff Keighley announced on Twitter that we will be seeing the game for the first time during the Square Enix E3 2019 press conference. Leaked gameplay information from the E3 Coliseum's website itself suggests that it might be a Destiny-style adventure, with mention of an "epic action adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay", for "teams of up to four players". You'll be able to "master extraordinary abilities, customise your heroes" all in the hope of defending an "ever-expanding world". The studios have spent the last few years aggressively hiring some of the best talent in the industry so it's a relatively safe bet that this is going to be something special. Sam Loveridge

Gears 5

Platform(s): Xbox One, PC
Release date: TBC 2019

Since last June, we've not seen or heard anything else about Gears 5, despite the fact it's allegedly out this year. What we do know though is that Kait's taking the lead this time around, moving the series away from its tried and tested big muscly men with even more muscly guns for the first time. She's off to discover the origins of the Locust, along with several more familiar faces from the COG squad, in what looks to be quite the exciting new Gears of War series' entry. And not just because that wind-powered sledge looks awesome. Of course, we're still looking at familiar gun and cover gameplay, but it's amazing to see the series innovate regardless. Expect to see a lot more at E3 2019. Sam Loveridge

Halo Infinite

Platform(s): Xbox One
Release date: TBC 2020

Halo Infinite might officially be the third entry into the Reclaimer Saga – a story arc that kicked off in 2012 with Halo 4, as developer 343 Industries took hold of the reigns from Bungie – but the studio is effectively treating this as a "spiritual reboot" of the long-running franchise. It's already confirmed that Halo Infinite will be built on the Slipspace Engine, a piece of proprietary technology specifically designed to support Master Chief's venture into the next generation. While we will get a better sense of how that will look at E3 2019, we already know to expect a campaign that will be "doubling down on Master Chief's story" inside of a world that is "a little bit more realistic and compelling" with a heavy focus on exploration. On the multiplayer side of things, 343 has already confirmed four-player split-screen will return, pushed back against the idea of a Halo Battle Royale and "real-money loot boxes" but I'd say you should expect to see an expanded Warzone mode built to harness the concept of live-service storytelling – just you wait. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One
Release date: November 15, 2019

To be perfectly honest, we should be upset that developer Respawn Entertainment isn't focusing its attention wholeheartedly on the development of Titanfall 3. But we aren't, and that's because of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. That's right, the influential developer is dipping its toes into the ever-expanding Star Wars universe with this third-person action-adventure game set shortly after Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. Fallen Order is going to focus on the Empire's efforts to finish the execution of Order 66, with Respawn dropping us into the shoes of a young Padawan as they attempt to flee from the Emperor's Inquisitors and link up with any surviving Jedi for guidance. We expect Fallen Order to playable at EA's own (E3 adjacent) EA Play event, so you better prepare for gameplay impressions! Josh West

Session

Platform(s): PC, Xbox One
Release date: TBC 2019

Originally announced as a PC exclusive Kickstarter title, Microsoft it was bringing indie Skate successor Session to the Xbox platform in E3 2018, but the game has seen some delays as a result of that expanded scope. It's expected to hit Early Access sometime in the Summer, so you can expect to see it show up at the Xbox E3 2019 Press Briefing with a more definitive launch window at the least. With no signs of Skate 4 in sight from publisher Electronic Arts, Session looks primed to be the heralded return of the skateboarding game that you've been waiting for, and our interview with developer Crea-ture Studios last year suggests a purist sports-action experience that's not to be missed. Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Platform(s): Xbox One, PC
Release date: TBC

Despite the fact Ori and the Will of the Wisps got announced some two years back, we still don't have a release date for the next Moon Studios title. The original got time in the spotlight for its roguelike gameplay, it's adorable hand-painted artstyle, challenging puzzles and absolutely glorious soundtrack. Seriously, go and listen to it, you'll want to bathe in it. This time around things are looking a lot jollier, with Ori and co seen playing in a lush green world with a giant spider-like thing and a teenie tiny round owl who eventually becomes your pal and ride to the creepy worlds that you'll actually be playing through. There are still perils, spikes and traps galore, but thing time you'll have some wings to help you get through them all. Hopefully. Sam Loveridge

Doom Eternal

Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch
Release date: TBC 2019

Following on from the success of the 2016 Doom reboot, Bethesda's id Software is back with a sequel - Doom Eternal. If you've played any of the Doom games, you'll know they revolve around smashing aliens in the face and severing them with awesome finishing moves, and just generally using ridiculous weapons to despatch them as quickly and spectacularly as possible. With Doom Eternal, there are even more weapons, including a shoulder-mounted cannon with flamethrower, extendable blade and a new dash ability to boot. You're about to be faster and deadlier than ever before. It's going to be mad. Gory, and mad. Sam Loveridge

Animal Crossing Switch

Platform(s): Nintendo Switch
Release date: TBC 2019

Here it is, the one we've all been waiting for as Switch owners: a brand new Animal Crossing game. It's official, Animal Crossing Switch is coming sometime this year, but that's basically all we know so far. Tom Nook himself prepared a special announcement in September last year, simply saying that he had lots of work to do getting everything ready for everyone's return. You can bet your bottom bell that the E3 2019 games lineup is dominated by Nintendo's Animal Crossing reveal, which will no doubt reveal the release date, gameplay details and more from the title. Sam Loveridge

Control

Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One
Release date: August 27, 2019

The creators of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Quantum Break, Remedy Entertainment, is going back to its roots with Control. Expect things to get real weird, real fast this time, folks. Control sees you taking charge of Jesse Faden as she moves deeper and deeper through The Oldest House, a secretive government agency that also happens to be home to all of the world's strangest and most dangerous supernatural objects. This mind-warping, third-person adventure is set to release on August 27, 2019, so we're expecting Remedy to showcase even more of Control's high-octane action in an effort to further raise anticipation. Please, Remedy... you have to stop, I'm only human! Josh West

Dying Light 2

Platform(s): PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Release date: TBC

The eighth generation of console hardware may be winding down for good, but Dying Light is just getting started. Techland's Dead Island successor slowly but surely garnered a huge player base and cult following after its 2015 release, so the announcement of a sequel at E3 last year was met with delight and adulation by thousands. Since then, we've visited Techland's studios in Poland to discover more about the game as part of our On the Radar: Dying Light 2 coverage, but you can expect to see it make a big presence at E3 2019, hopefully alongside a firm release date announcement. If you're as excited about Dying Light 2 as the rest of us, you'll be watching this year's Microsoft press briefing (where it premiered in 2018) with eager eyes. Alex Avard

FIFA 20

Platform(s): PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Release date: September 27, 2019

Football fans are used to receiving a brand new FIFA game every year, and in anticipation of the 2019/20 season, FIFA 20 is next on the list. EA has gone all in with Ultimate Team in recent years, barely updating the other modes whatsoever but hopefully with FIFA 20, we'll see some genuine gameplay improvements and much needed TLC given to career mode and pro clubs. Ah, who are we kidding? FIFA 20 is going to be more of the same, with updated rosters and even more ways to drop money on virtual cards that sell for extortionate prices. At least the Vanarama National Leagues might be in it this time? Ford James

Luigi's Mansion 3

Platform(s): Nintendo Switch
Release date: TBC 2019

Nintendo is pinning a lot on the best of Mario brothers (yeah, I went there – the year of Luigi is the best thing that ever happened to any of us and you know it).  In spite of the fact that Luigi's Mansion 3 is still yet to receive an official title, there's a very good chance that Nintendo is positioning Luigi's latest spooky adventure as one of its major titles for the all-important Q3 2019 release window. Luigi's Mansion 3 was first unveiled last September, and an E3 2019 Nintendo Direct would be the perfect opportunity to give us an update on the new location, the new ghost-hunting tools at Luigi's disposal, and some clues as to the the JoyCons will be utilised to make us feel like very real, and very badass, Ghostbusters. Borderlands 3

Platform(s): PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Release date: September 13, 2019

Praise be to the Eridians, as we already know a ton about Borderlands 3. Coming out on September 13, it follows the continuing adventures of the latest wave of Vault Hunters: Amara the Siren, Moze the Bot Jock, Zane the Operative, and Fl4k the Beastmaster. These four rascals are trying to stop the Calypso Twins Troy and Tyreen from getting their hands on the galaxy's "ultimate power" (whatever that may be), and luckily they're being helped by a returning cast of characters that any fan will recognise from other Borderlands games. Also returning is Borderlands 3 split screen - that sound you can hear is the joint cheers of co-op gamers rejoicing - and players can now loot and shoot together regardless of their level thanks to the introduction of co-op scaling. By the looks of it Borderlands 3 is going to be one hell of a game, and with less E3 2019 games vying for the spotlight this year thanks to Sony's absence, a brand new glimpse of it couldn't come any sooner. Zoe Delahunty-Light

The Outer Worlds

Platform(s): PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Release date: TBC 2019

After the real life fallout of Fallout 76, it's fair to say RPG fans are hungry for a new sci-fi adventure to properly dig their teeth into, and The Outer Worlds is ticking all the right boxes so far. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity) and directed by the original creators of the Fallout series itself, The Outer Worlds is a first-person shooter with the roleplaying depth of a classic Bethesda title, the narrative fluidity of a Telltale game, and the ragtag humour of the Borderlands series. Given that Microsoft now own Obsidian, we'll most likely be seeing The Outer Worlds making an appearance at its E3 press briefing this year. Fingers crossed the game is releasing sooner in 2019 rather than later. Alex Avard

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, and PC
Release date: October 4, 2019

Ubisoft has already shown one of its big 2019 games, and it comes in the form of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Tech giant Skell Technology has turned the remote Auroa Archipelago, which lies somewhere in the South Pacific, into a high-tech, high-security utopia of sustainable eco-cities and robotics research, but it's been taken over by The Wolves, former Ghosts who have turned rogue. Oh good. The game looks absolutely fantastic, and builds on the success of 2017's Ghost Recon Wildlands, introducing new features like an injury system, a wide variety of terrain to really test your abilities, and a higher focus on stealth. I for one can't wait to see more at E3. Sam Loveridge

Roller Champions

Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch
Release date: TBC

One of the totally unannounced games so far, that hasn't stopped Roller Champions - a brand new game from Ubisoft - being leaked online. From what has leaked so far, it looks like a Roller Derby game, with influences from Rocket League. It's apparently got various game modes, ranging from Quick Play to Custom Matches, which suggests a strong online focus. I for one am very intrigued by this new Ubi adventure. Sam Loveridge

Dear God, I'm hoping they don't take THAT long

But I heard they're waiting for the PS5 to be released before they even attempt to hit shelves with VI, because the PS4 can't handle all they've put into it :plzstop:

Plus with GTA V still thriving like its just been released

UGH
I believe that

PS5 is coming next year. Maybe they'll announce it then

That would make sense
