People are so (understandably) ignorant when it comes to Africa.

Furthermore, it's not an "interest". This is who I am, biologically and socially -- black. A descendant of Africans. You really have some nerve

!!! yea that was kinda....

n

A big reason why I didn't even bother to continue the discussion.

I had a friend who seriously thought "African" was a language.
The ignorance is crazy.

I think many African countries, if not every last one of them, are in fact very hard to digest for Westerners, so it is not like that intimidation is unwarranted, but for me having been in there as a child frequently it is second nature.

But if you have no relatives, friends or any other direct ties, it is not a easy breezy continent to just stroll by: climatically, socio-econically and culturally.

I was talking with one of my white coworkers, we were discussing vacation plans and mess for 2016 and I expressed my desire to visit countries in Africa. He was like "OMG really? Why Africa? Are you sure :usureuok: , it's kind of dangerous over there...."

First of all, did you really just ask me why? Do you not see the color of my got damn skin :dead: Do you think black people popped out of nowhere in America?  :dead: :dead: Secondly, I had to restrain myself from getting hood on him because I actually like him and I KNOW it's not his fault that he's that ignorant when it comes to Africa.

I politely schooled him and let him know how diverse the CONTINENT is. It's not one country, with one economy and one ruler. :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: I had to be straightforward with him and advise him NOT to let the images on television fool him. Yes those images are real but there are so many different sides to this CONTINENT. CONTINENT.

CONTINENT.

He still wasn't getting it so I changed the topic of our conversation before it went completely left. Cuz he was really upsetting me. It's one thing to misspeak out of ignorance, but it's another thing to remain close minded when the FACTS are being given to you. I was two minutes away from reading him and his got damn ancestors who brought me here to begin with.

The real danger for us began once we got off those got damn ships. If you really wanna talk about danger
The real danger is a black man behind the wheel of a car.
The real danger is strolling into the wrong neighborhood with a bag of Skittles in your hand.

Let's talk about danger!
but imagine living in a country were lgbt folks have to be closeted, making it difficult for you to meet other lgbt folk

U.S is disgusting ....but every country has its own messed up shit
