Rapper's Visit to Nail Salon Leads to Fight and Day in Court

Her toenails were perfect, but her fingernails were still undone.

That was what led to a dispute between the rapper Foxy Brown and two employees of a Chelsea nail salon called Bloomie Nails one night in August.

The dispute between the salon and the rapper continued yesterday in Manhattan Criminal Court, where Foxy Brown pleaded not guilty to an assault over payment for a manicure.

The rapper, whose given name is Inga Marchand, a frequent customer of the salon, on West 23rd Street near Eighth Avenue, said she had asked for a manicure and a pedicure. The salon was about to close.

"I got the pedicure, but they didn't give me the manicure," she said, outside a courtroom yesterday.

The trouble in August began when Ms. Marchand tried to leave. Nail salon employees locked the door, saying she had tried to leave without paying. Ms. Marchand said they were demanding payment for both services when she only received one. Whatever the case, a tussle ensued. Prosecutors charge that Ms. Marchand kicked and hit a manager, Sun Ji Song, causing "bruising and swelling to the face, as well as substantial pain." They said the salon's employees ran out to Ms. Marchand's car and stood in front of it to block her. At one point, they said, Ms. Marchand slugged one of the workers with a cellphone.
