I never thought her peers, or the industry in general clowned Nicki for that stuff.  It was the hiphop consumer on social media. I dont think Nicki was expected to prove herself to her peers.

Got you. Yeah, people didn't see it for those songs at all. Makes you wonder how she would have been perceived if she didn't go the pop route and dared to be different for real. She might have just feared flopping and fading into obscurity - like so many female rappers were doing post 90's and that entire renaissance era -  so i kinda don't blame her for going all the way with the pop fluff.
