Bad decisions? I thought the brakes failed.

People here saying he did nothing wrong or deserves 5 years... okay.

1. He inspected his brakes and *knew* something was wrong with them. Instead of stopping, he still decided to drive his semi-truck.

2. When his brakes gave out, he passed at least one runaway truck ramp. He argued that he can't read English well and didn't know; even if this was true, this is admitting he drastically fell below the standard for CDL Operators and he should not have been on the road at all if he knew he couldn't read road signs. This highway also has multiple runaway ramps

3. He passed up at least one open field he could have driven the truck on because he didn't want to damage the truck. Instead he decided to continue operating a runaway multi-ton vehicle in highway traffic

4. he passed up all guard rails and medians he could have used to slow the truck down. And when faced with driving into traffic or running into a stopped semi on the side of the road, he closed his eyes and drove into traffic

5. the man tried to run from the accident instead of calling or offering for *any* kind of assistance

6. While in jail, he refused any kind of plea deal that carried time and he wanted this to be busted down to a minor traffic ticket.

so yeah, he did a lot wrong

110 years was way too extreme but him being eligible to get out in 5 years is too light imo. Shoulda got 15-20 yrs imo.

Several people were severely injured in addition to those who were killed, and looking at the explosion caused during the accident i'm pretty sure some if not all of them suffered major burns and permanent disfiguration, I'd honestly be pissed at this news if I were one of them.
