I dont think the male artists themselves are responsible for their popularity. There's too many other factors that go into that. But I'm literally listening to the radio right now and "Woman" by Stokley sounds like a love song. he's not popular but...... Black male artists make love songs.

This is broad generalisation. I can think of plenty of male R&B singers that make love songs :uhh:

hits on the urban charts? Yes
Hits on the level of Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles of course not. But they said: "R&B doesn't even have love songs like that anymore"
