People are shocked at the jimmy carter mess but it's not too unbelievable
Usually only wealthy and well-off white people could afford to have many enslaved people working their property. It wasn't cheap by any means .
So it's not too shocking especially if jimmy carter came from an affluent white family.
Don't think berry gordy would be ecstatic to celebrate this cousin knowing how they're related. Probably a huge reason he's kept silent about it even if he was aware.
And don't like how they're saying Jimmy's ancestor "had sex with his slave ". To say someone's "had sex" is saying there was some sort of consent, romance and mutual attraction. It was rape.
The phrasing of "his slave" also dehumanizes and completely objectifies her. "He raped an enslaved woman who was working his property." is the correct way to describe what happened.
