There has never ever ever been a time when Kelly is more popular than Beyonce anywhere. Let's not get too crazy

Here are a little bit of facts:

Kelly album peaks in the UK:
Simply Deep- 1
Ms Kelly-23
Here I Am-43
Talk A Good Game-80

Beyonce:
Dangerously-1
 Bday-3
I Am-2

But the album was definitely geared for Europe.

Mathhew didn't want any confusion as to who was the star.

If Kelly or Michelle released a random hit produced by Rodney Jerkins or Timbaland with a fire video it could have muddied the waters.

This was a cute pop rock mess for Europe

I love this but a little too "deep" for a single. It was a hit right?

They released it in September 2002. One year after 9/11. I know Michelle had a track on her album inspired by 9/11. Maybe they wanted something deep because the world was still grieving?

Anyways I remember it was a hit in the Netherlands. Dilemma was a huge hit, people knew her name.

I think years later When love takes over was right on time because of this Euro dance trend. I personally loved R&B Kelly better, but the general Euro public probably remembers her (solo) for the dance pop tracks. The Work Freemasons remix was a big one as well.

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.
