she didn't realize she was a victim and that it wasn't "love" or a "relationship " until she was much older

Very common among people who've been groomed / abused at a very young age

Takes a minute for the light bulb to go off that even though they went along with it , they really were not old enough to actuallh consent to it.

It "felt" like consent because they didn't resist or say no but a 16 year old give cannot consent. Even if it felt like you did

The complexity of this all is one huge reason why it takes people a long time to confront or hold their abusers accountable . Aside from embarrassment, fear etc.

That period between the abuse itself and them having that moment of " wait a minute ...was that really a relationship/love?" can take years.
