Aalonso.

How long did it take after Nicki for another prominent female rapper to emerge?

Does the answer to that support that Nicki "opened the doors back up for female rap?"

Be honest with yourself.

now is that a shot at Nicki or Consuela? :shannonsmissing:

cuz Nicki def conquered pure sales downe before the streaming era came in.

Trina doesn't even have a platinum album.😂

She was at bottom of the barrel sales wise when it came to other female rappers during that time frame compared to the likes of Eve, Foxy, Kim,etc.
uhuuusususdsds

yeah trina is iconic but she is like the perfect example of "local"

like, she ruled Miami but outside of that its hit or miss

literally

So basically a more successful version of Rasheeda?

Because the atl gorls go up for Rash :uhh:
gh

No goes up for Rasheeda.

I said the ATL gorls.

What's not clicking?

At a time when it was crickets for female rappers in the mainstream

Which is why she was the only one dominating for a good minute

Consuelas lil remix to the foundation that was already set by Nicki was cute

But without Nicki there may not have even been an investment into consuela.

And Nicki is still dominating and outselling her peers cuz she's that iconic

She's literally the top selling female rapper of all time. Let's get real

No, that made the industry believe in HER. Not female rap.

If it were about female rap we would have seen the reemergence of female rappers a lot sooner, and not after a lengthy period of time where it was monopolized by Nicki and sabotaged by Nicki. She literally sat up and told Joe we should start gatekeeping again. When you gatekeep, you use your power and influence to keep something a certain way. Im sure Nicki's gatekeeping included trying to protect the integrity of rap, but also in a way that would benefit her, so don't start talking to me about Nicki not gatekeeping and sabotaging other acts to remain the ONE. She put interest into herself. Not female rap. 95% of the new girl rappers who have had success in recent years were able to do so BECAUSE of Cardi's success and that gate being knocked tf down.

This is it! Nicki gatekept women, because she did many many songs with upcoming and trash ass male rappers. She only starting working with women post-Cardi after she began to get a lot of flack for not embracing the new girls. Even then she did so very strategically.

all this propping up of consuela y'all did on here just to spite nicki

(Which obviously still continues to this day)

Yet you can't find the connection between nickis success and consuelas.

Amazing

Not really shocking tho , considering what I pointed out above.

There is no direct relation between Nicki's success and that of Cardi B's. Why do you think it took so long to find any real competitors for Nicki? Nicki did not revive female rap music because it wasn't dead when she emerged as a mainstream artist. It declined shortly after her rise to fame.

Cardi has changed the way female rappers are signed today.  Nicki's impact on rap music is not significantly greater than that of the women who came before her, simply because she followed a familiar formula: releasing mixtapes, signing with a male rapper, venturing into pop music. Artists like Eve had already done this long before her.

Nicki should be more successful and have sold more albums the women who came before her because they broke down doors for her and her path was already laid.   This also doesn't negate the fact that Nicki is the best-selling and possibly the most influential female rapper, however her overall impact is minimal.

I'm 50/50 with this.

Nicki definitely revived female rap, but the other gorls didn't get the COURAGE to really play ball until Remy came home.

They all came out to play directly after SHEther/Remy snatched that BET Award from Nicki. Literally

Quote from: BruceTruMusicFan on December 30, 2023, 09:39:40 AMWhy do Nicki Minaj fans want to give her credit for opening the doors for female rappers? Historically, men typically opened the doors for female rappers. From Da Brat, Foxy, Kim, Trina, etc., we typically first discovered them on records with established male rappers.

This was no different with Nicki. Not only did she follow the same formula, but she had the two biggest male rappers co-signing her. In the eight years passed, before she had any real competition, she didn't bring any up-and-coming females to open for her, feature with them, or anything. So how is she responsible for the new wave of female rappers?

The new wave of female rappers is clearly following the path of Cardi B. Cardi B used social media and reality TV, which is what most of the other girls are doing now. She also did it without a male co-sign which most girls are doing now. Cardi is responsible for the new wave because she showed that rap girls could be profitable again.

Lay it all out then.

Icki knew better than to say something about this, as much as it's probably eating her up inside. If she dare say something about the REAL Queen, she would be blacklisted for real.
