At a time when it was crickets for female rappers in the mainstream
Which is why she was the only one dominating for a good minute
Consuelas lil remix to the foundation that was already set by Nicki was cute
But without Nicki there may not have even been an investment into consuela.
And Nicki is still dominating and outselling her peers cuz she's that iconic
She's literally the top selling female rapper of all time. Let's get real
No, that made the industry believe in HER. Not female rap.
If it were about female rap we would have seen the reemergence of female rappers a lot sooner, and not after a lengthy period of time where it was monopolized by Nicki and sabotaged by Nicki. She literally sat up and told Joe we should start gatekeeping again. When you gatekeep, you use your power and influence to keep something a certain way. Im sure Nicki's gatekeeping included trying to protect the integrity of rap, but also in a way that would benefit her, so don't start talking to me about Nicki not gatekeeping and sabotaging other acts to remain the ONE. She put interest into herself. Not female rap. 95% of the new girl rappers who have had success in recent years were able to do so BECAUSE of Cardi's success and that gate being knocked tf down.
all this propping up of consuela y'all did on here just to spite nicki
(Which obviously still continues to this day)
Yet you can't find the connection between nickis success and consuelas.
Amazing
Not really shocking tho , considering what I pointed out above.
There is no direct relation between Nicki's success and that of Cardi B's. Why do you think it took so long to find any real competitors for Nicki? Nicki did not revive female rap music because it wasn't dead when she emerged as a mainstream artist. It declined shortly after her rise to fame.
Cardi has changed the way female rappers are signed today. Nicki's impact on rap music is not significantly greater than that of the women who came before her, simply because she followed a familiar formula: releasing mixtapes, signing with a male rapper, venturing into pop music. Artists like Eve had already done this long before her.
Nicki
should be more successful and have sold more albums the women who came before her because they broke down doors for her and her path was already laid. This also doesn't negate the fact that Nicki is the best-selling and possibly the most influential female rapper, however her overall impact is minimal.
