looks like it's recently been added to Netflix.
came up as a recommendation yesterday and i got in.

i'd say this is a must-watch. learned so many things i didn't know about Harriet before

from how she chose the name, to the fact that she first went back just for her husband out of loneliness (after finding freedom for herself in the north)...

so many moments that grabbed tears from my eyes. but id say its the speech she gave where she said "I'll give every drop of my blood in my veins to free them" that was a standout for me.

that line stuck with me cuz its so powerful. the love and dedication she had to her people. i'd say it's damn near poetry......she had such a way with words.

so much about Harriet's story is so fucking relevant today. so many morsels of this story that could be pulled and applied to life of Black Americans and how we relate to one another to this very day.

i think the best part of her story is that she actually MADE it through all the shit she took on. there's no ending where she's shot dead or hung. she MADE it and accomplished so much in the 90+ years she had on Earth.

although i already knew she wasn't caught/killed, the movie still did a great job of keeping it suspenseful and keeping the "thriller" aspect alive . i was still rooting for her and was nervous for her like i didn't know if they'd catch her or not. sffsfsfsfssfsf

this movie really highlights why Harriet is fucking iconic as she is. this is a woman who TRIUMPHED.
leaves u feeling so good. and fucking proud of her. instead of sad , or angry. or triggered.

if you haven't seen already def pull up Netflix and get in when u get a chance.

I can't bring myself to see a slave movie. I couldn't even bring myself to see the Color Purple, although I heard it was a great movie.

On another note, please go see American Fiction! Not enough people are talking about it, and it's so freaking good!

Did you get into a tub yesterday too

Harriet's story isn't a "slave movie".

Don't reduce it to that.

It's a story of a woman who loved her people so much that she went through extraordinary lengths and dangers to help them.

She was previously enslaved but mentally, she broke free and wanted others to do the same .

So no, her story isn't a "slave movie".
