Alot people only embrace their "roots" superficially. They'll see some generalized East African mess and wear it to embrace their roots, but won't look into it to understand where this particular garment came from or the fact that it's East African which means it's technically not them embracing their roots.

I think people don't like it because it's another way to homogenize Africa, even if seemingly positive.
