This year, the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors are set to return, but with a whole different flavor.

On Sept. 18, VH1's Hip-Hop Honors: The 90's Game Changers will pay homage to the beloved era of hip-hop, television and film. In addition, they'll celebrate the success of revered comedian Martin Lawrence, as he'll serve as one of the night's special honorees.

For Lawrence, his vibrant personality and colorful humor helped widen the landscape for comedy. After his self-titled sitcom Martin became a staple on TV from 1992 to 1997, Lawrence blossomed into a successful movie star. With a myriad of movie franchises under his belt including Bad Boys and Big Momma's House, Lawrence cemented his placement as one of Hollywood's biggest names.

"Anytime anyone wants to recognize you for your work, it's an honor. I am looking forward to a really great night of fun and music," says Lawrence in a statement to Billboard.

In addition to reveling at the success of the '90s, VH1 will pay special tribute to those affected by Hurricane Harvey during the show.

Last year, VH1 showered the legendary ladies of hip-hop with a special tribute, as Lil' Kim, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott and Salt-N-Pepa were named special honorees. The two-hour spectacle reeled in a whopping 3 million viewers.

Tune in Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. EST on VH1.
