I've come to accept that Bran really is Whitney Jr in many ways. Whitney was just fine being a wife and mother...shuffling around in a wig, house coat, XL t-shirts, mom jeans, and slippers. Like she said, if it weren't for Clive Davis she would've been moved to Hawaii and opened up a lemonade stand.
People on here so desperately want her to give Rih/Bey, and legit get mad. Like Nippy, Bran's art and genius is her voice, and everything else depends on who is around her... production, albums, fashions, release dates. IMO, Bran has always needed a Clive Davis type, and has always done well when she's had some super ambitious record executive or producer that understands her and orchestrates everything
I agree with the first paragraph. But Brandy (like Whitney) is not just an artist that goes to the studio, sings someone's song and leaves. Sure, that happens sometimes, but just because she is a pro. She does have alot of creative input on what she does and so did Whitney. I hate when people downplay some of my favs creative input. Whitney and Brandy are different from microwave artists like Rihanna.
I'm not saying that she or Whitney are studio puppets. I mean she co-wrote and came up with the concept for one of the biggest hits in music history.
I'm saying that she's an artist in the lineage of Whitney, like Bey is to MJ.
MJ/Bey were hellbent on creating looks and platforms for themselves... trying to be iconic and appear legendary. Whit/Bran did legendary things with someone helping them get a platform, but if the platform ain't there, you can find them at Whole Foods in a bandanna and sundress.
It's not lazy, just different ideas of who they are.
Its why I was afraid of her being indie, and didn't understand people wanting her to be so bad. If no one is championing her career or inviting her to do stuff, she'll be recording songs for her and Sy'Rai to listen to at home, just like Nippy and Bobbi Kris.
