& why are ALL the ppl in the pr&b genre pretentious

And say what you want about Jhene Aiko, but she has her thing too, and i like her particular style over a lot of the moody girls

Her, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd/Drake were the first to make this sound popular. Rochelle Jordan and Dawn too but they were never mainstream.

I do agree that this sound has become stagnant now. Elhae, Elijah Blake, HIM, They, Roy Woods etc are interchangeable to me.

yes but even with songs like Sativa, and OLLA (only lovers left alive) i can hear that she?s at least making an effort to give a lil? something else. Plus, her tone is what completely sets her apart from some of these others.

Don?t get me wrong tho. She definitely has some sleepy ass songs that i can?t get into

A lot of it has to do with the producers too. There are a few who can switch it up, but they're all pretty derivative of each other.

The Neptunes, Timbaland, Rodney and Swizz all had distinctive sounds and catered their work to the artists.
