I do remember when I first started hearing the song I was wondering what she was singing at certain parts.

I think diction is a sacrifice made for the "swag" on the song may times. Sometimes you can't ride the KNOCK properly if you're pronouncing every word properly as you sing. Gotta just flow and feel it.
