LeBron James opens I Promise School in Ohio, offers free uniforms, lunch, bikes and more

LeBron James may be a Los Angeles Laker, but Akron, Ohio, will always be home.

On Monday, before heading to California, James unveiled his I Promise School, which will benefit at-risk students. It is public and part of Akron Public Schools, which paid $2.9 million from its general fund for the cost of most benefits, salaries, supplies and essential elements for the school, according to Akron Beacon Journal.

LeBron James? I Promise School Is Reportedly Getting The Documentary Treatment

Looks like we?ll be getting a sneak peek into the life of students enrolled at LeBron James? I Promise school in Akron, OH. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the school has reportedly inked a deal with a NYC production company to document the first year of the school?s opening.

?The school board approved an agreement this week with Blowback Productions to produce a feature-length documentary ?capturing the successes, struggles and endeavors? of students,? reports the publication. ?Blowback, founded in 1988 by independent filmmaker Marc Levin, has produced more than 20 films, including Baltimore Rising, Cadillac Records, SLAM and WhiteBoyz. Many of its projects have focused on race, drugs and crime.?

The I Promise school opened in July to 240 students. The school is currently open to at-risk third and fourth graders, and the establishment is hoping to bring in more grade levels 9first through eighth grade) by 2022. The foundation of the school is built around STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

?This skinny kid from Akron who missed 83 days of school in the 4th grade had big dreams for the kids in Akron to give them everything they could need to find their passion, give back to our community and change the world!!? James wrote on Twitter after news about the school?s creation made the rounds. ?This school is that. The people are that. Akron is that.?

Free fucking tuition for the college in his hometown upon graduation is what truly blew me away

My next favorite thing is the free bicycles and transportation
:loose2when:

It?ll keep a lot of kids out of trouble. Lebron said that bike riding away from his neighborhood every once in a while, did just that.

como la whore

This is amazing  :'( it's going to impact so many lives.
