Being that we're not as far from slavery as we'd like to think.....

Herb.

Through all my genealogy research, it forced me to face that fact that we are not as far separated as slavery that many of us would comfortably like to feel. I only had to hop back 3-4 generations to enter the slavery era. And that's CRAZY.  I honestly think there is going to be a time, far beyond our years here on Earth, where "racial wars" will be  a thing of the past, just as slavery is (well, it's really not in the past just yet, but let's save that for another thread lolz).

We're simply living through another phase of history. Progress is being made surely be very very slowly. It's amazing that we got to see the first back president signed into office, though. What an amazing era of history to witness as blacks.

Honestly I think the effects of slavery on blacks will effect us for many centuries to come.  As long as white supremacy exists, blacks will always get the short end of the stick on everything.  And frankly, I don't think whites'll want to rid themselves of that priviledge as easy as one would want them to.

Don't take it as an insult, but it's been interesting watching your evolution because a year ago during all these race threads you always came in like

"Guys, lets give them the benefit of the doubt :(((((("

Ssssdddd

Now you're kinda like, "fck em :bvy:"

Although I do think you still look at all perspectives of a situation, you just seem a lot more aware of human nature during all your history searches

that's the difference education can make. I have been quite invested in history since last year, my genealogy/DNA simply was another branch I looked into. And the most hurtful. Because it all comes back down to YOU. And you really realize you're not as far removed as you think.

The more I learn, the more I look around at this world differently.

They took this land from my Native ancestors after "discovering" it, then dragged my African family over here to build it. And now get to reign superior over it. It makes me mad as hell, but I still try my best not to hate people just because of the color of their skin.

There is so much power in learning your family history, and the history of this country. I feel  stronger and more grounded than I have ever felt before. This is my way of fighting back. With knowledge and awareness of SELF and my surroundings.

And I find solace in the fact that if it weren't for these instances throughout history, I wouldn't exist. Since we are all a product of history -- DNA tells that story.

Honestly I fear the same thing. Kind of boils down to "why fix what's not broken" (for whites at least.
