The german government keeps insisting that mask don't work. Funny thing is people believe it.

first off they're only good for a couple hours. second, they're designed to protect the outside world from your breath, not the other way around. and lastly they don't filter the air you're breathing in 

which means they do work in some way at least. And there are also masks that work for your own protection if you wear them.

the few hours that they do work, its to protect the OUTSIDE from your breath, not the other way around (surgical masks). construction masks and things of that sort do work to protect you from the outside, but there is no air filtration happening, so they are absolutely no protection from a pathogen like this.

if everyone wears a mask to protect the others won't that protect you too? So yes, masks are useful as I said.
