i thought the gorls were being a little harsh on him at first when that whole appropriation thing came up

yall know for the most part i feel if someone is genuinely influenced by the culture why cant they dabble in it a lil. i can hear genuine influence when i listen to bruno mars - down to that "ahhh hooooo" adlib in finesse that was slim from 112 DOWNE. super small things like that ...that most people won't really notice....lets me know how DEEPLY influenced someone is. the intricate teas. and he has them.

but other parts of the album were  like ok i get why the gorls were tugging

the whole "i got all the shalequas waiting on for me" line in one song made me side eye him.   

then that song talking about relaxing with a perm and mess....
"u got tah relax it!"



at that point i was like ok. ur not black luv stop this.
there has to be a line somewhere

but he is so fucking talented. versace on the floor is fuckin amazing
just those two things really made me side eye him

His music is so generic and predictable.... which is a shame because he's really talented (good singer, good producer, multi-instrumentalist, etc). He needs to switch up the formula because that retro! throwback! mess he's been doing for the past 10 years is late.

Or maybe that's just who he is as an artist. His first album was literally called door wops.  He's CLEARLY influenced by earlier genres of music. You just don't like his style and that's ok
