It's interesting how people all of a sudden buy albums when someone dies...

Because he is white
him being iconic helps but plz
I bet if Aaron Carter died he'd be top 10 too
df

:usuresis:
!!!
This ain't Jason Derulo
David is the king of reinvention
and I never debated that
Clearly he's iconic
BUT he is also privileged because he is white
which is the main reason he sold more in death than
Natalie Cole who is also a legend, but she is black
:uhh:
Lol ok Ray

!!!! RIGHT! He started the whole androgynous image that many artists were inspired by. And he even had an alter-ego as well.

I don't think it is "all of a sudden". This is typically what happens when someone who actually made some contributions to music or was a major talent passes.

For instance, Natalie Cole didn't see a surge in sales after her passing and didn't get a #1 album either. David Bowie on the other hand is a legend who did this in 5 different decades. Their purchasing after their passing is a reminder of what they have been hearing and loving over the years but may not have actually purchased. Also the young kids may have only been introduced after the passing and encourages them to purchase also.

I agree with this.

Not all celeb see a surge in sales. It's not a surprise to me that David Bowie did though. He's one of the legend/icon artists and his death may be an introduction to this generation. Not many artists can leave a legacy like that behind.

Race has nothing to do with this. I'm a HUGE Bowie fan and would do the same if he came out of face about Toni as well.

are u guys stupid? David Bowie died during RELEASE WEEK, that is much different from Natalie Cole. Had sis died right during album promo phase, she would also perch in the top ten.

Boy, no one knows Natalie's music outside of that duet with her legendary father and the song "This Will Be." That's where it ends luv. Maybe her dad saw a surge in sales tho.

!!!!!!

Well sum it up

It's more like a reason for people to listen and find out what made them so legendary vs. hopping on some bandwagon
:holdupguys:

Herb.

A surge of sales after an artist dies is just a reflection of everyone honoring their memory
And let's be blunt: death is huge publicity. Perhaps the biggest type available. It's no secret that society gravitates toward negative news before positive news.

It's just the nature of people, in general.

a 9 time Grammy award winning artist
who could go toe to toe with Whitney and Aretha
should have been able to see that surge in sales though
why y'all acting like this woman is some flop in comparison?
:uhh:

I've still never listened to OIAM by Aaliyah. In the fact the only album I have of hers is the Red album and I bought that before she died.

If Natalie Cole had a brand new album during death, trust and believe it would do well.
