Sidharth Shukla death: Indian TV star dies aged 40 from heart attack

Three police officers and two paramedics involved in the death of a "gentle and kind" Colorado man will face charges of murder.

On Wednesday, a grand jury indicted Aurora Police officers Randy Roedema, Nathan Woodyard and Jason Rosenblatt and fire department paramedics Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec on charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

Elijah McClain, who was unarmed and had committed no crime, was forcibly held to the ground by the officers during an incident in Aurora, Colorado in August 2019 after a 911 caller claimed he "looked sketchy" because he was wearing an open-face ski mask.

The 23-year-old massage therapist, who was on his way home from picking up an iced tea for his brother, often wore the mask because he had anaemia that caused him to get cold easily.

As the officers used a chokehold to restrain the handcuffed McClain, paramedics administered a large dose of ketamine to sedate him. He soon went into cardiac arrest, and passed away in hospital six days later.

Stories about McClain, a vegetarian and a pacifist described by family and friends as a gentle and kind introvert, filled social media in the wake of his death – with friends recalling how he volunteered to play his violin to comfort cats at an animal shelter.
