i think as years go by we're gonna have to step into the new age and let go of the idea that anything involving "soul" should just include people like patti, mary j blige etc.

as years progress the gorls from the eras where it wasn't all about "sanging" will be getting their flowers as well.

So do u guys think keyshia cole deserves a mess too? Serious question. I just dont see any of those girls as being honorable. Alicia and beyonce are the only girls off the top of my head that came out then that are regarded in that way.

music in itself can have a lot of soul.

id say GODliyah had a lot of soulful songs.

"foolish" and its impact in itself is enough to garner her an award or two IMO.
it was a song u could feel. that's soul.

!!! Rain on me, and most of her debut.  I'm sure there are a few girls that deserve it and maybe could get it before Ashanti, but, she's doing her thing right now and it's not a big deal IMO.

right. ashanti def shocked the gorls a couple times and showed versatility

rain on me and foolish are legit classics and full of soul and depth.

im not even a stan but she delivers her flowers. "Lady of Soul" is just the name of the award obviously because its given by Soul Train, so it's not saying she's the most "soulful" gorl out there -  but its their way of honoring her contributions to the game with a very high honor specific to the Soul Train Awards.

Hell, Aaliyah would've been my first choice with everyone honoring and performing her hits in respect to her, followed by someone like India Arie, Mya, Tamia, etc. They'd probably give Alicia Keys the "legend" award but she can be Lady of Soul as well.

In 2-3 years, i want Bran to get the legend award and she'll have earned it (she already has) for SURE by then.
